I had no idea...

that the jewelry from Tiffany that has the id numbers on it & says return to Tiffany means nothing if you lose it?

I thought that they had the numbers registered on those "return to Tiffany" charms coded to the person who purchased it.

I found something today and went to Tiffany on my way home. I was hoping that they would be able to find the owner and the sales people looked at me like I was out of my mind. They said that those numbers don't get registered in any kind of system.

i knew that they didnt go in a data base, but i just wanted to say it was really nice of you to try to return it to them. a lot of people would just keep the jewelry. now that you tried, congrats on your new tiffany's jewelry! :)

it was just one of those heart charms from the bracelets
but i could only imagine some little girl who got it for her bat mitzvah or birthday and was so upset that she lost it.

For the silver bracelets and necklaces they do not register the ID's BUT for diamond rings they do register them and put etchings inside.

well then thats dumn isnt it!!!! why wouldnt they just register them? they went through the trouble to put numbers on them!!

I thought for sure they used to do it with their keychains.. that way if you lost your keys, you had the chance of someone finding them and dropping them in the mail or bringing to tiffanys for you... i swear someone at the store told me that... This was YEARS ago though...
