I guess DS will never get to see a circus...

DH was watching something online where they show you how the circus people treat the animals. It's really cruel and mean. DH said he will never go to another circus ever again. I understand how he feels but what if one day DS is like "mommy, daddy can we go to the circus" then what do we tell him? I told DH this and he was like "You can take him". See DH is a major animal lover, I'm not but I'm not saying that I don't care about them either. I was disgusted to see how they were treated. But what do I do if my son asks me take him one day cuz all of his friends have been to the circus?

DH said he wants his son to have a compassion for animals one day. He refuses to take him to the circus knowing that those jerks mistreat the animals horribly.

I have mixed feelings about this too. as a kid my mom always took us to the circus it was the thing to do, these days its not as popular. my family is no longer a big circus advocate, I guess when DD gets older and asks I will take it from there how I feel about it.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it until he actually asks. And depending on his age, maybe you can explain to him why you don't believe in going to one.

My parents always explained those types of things to us (age appropriately, of course).

This was many years ago. Since then large name circus' actually have been taking excellent care of the animals. And have been anything but cruel to them. It is almost impossible for them to do otherwise with PETA and others breathing down their neck.

I would do a little more research about the subject before dismissing it and going by a one sided tv show

If Cailen asks me if he can go to the circus, I am going to be honest with him about it, and tell him - in an age appropriate way - how they treat the animals. I am hoping this will help raise an aware and compassionate person!

ETA - I am already raising him vegetarian, so animals will already be on his radar...

I don't like the zoo or the circus, and I will not take Maddie there. If she asks-I will explain (age appropriately) how the animals are treated.


Plus I have a fear the elephants will go nuts and stomp on everyone.

BTW- I'm pretty sure PETA IS breathing down their necks.
