can i ask a question. i have seen many buy for their kids but do you find they have been respectful/careful of it and they are using it truly for learning?
i can't fathom buying a child a $500 "toy" but i know i might not get it.

By no means is this my DS toy! I bought him a leap pad for Christmas which a children's version of a tablet thing. DH told me he is not allowed to play with it at all but I have let use it occasionally and when he does I am right near him to make sure he careful with it.

What is the difference between an ipad and a video game system or a laptop? At 3 I wouldn't get my kid an Ipad but at 10 I may consider it. You are right, things are expensive, but so are a lot of things!

I wouldn't get a two year old a computer unless it was specifically made for a two year old. Leapads are geared for that age group and have safety measures on it so its less fragile. Sharing is a great way to show a child that its important to be careful. Totally get the sharing thing just buying it purposely for a child when its not a children's toy is when I start wondering maybe i am odd and see an ipad as a non-toy.

My son who is 2 knows how to work my iPhone better than most adults. I have educational apps on it and he learns from it I see no issues with it. I'm sure most parents give their phones/computers to their children.
For the op all the apps that we're mentioned are good I also use family feud

Good question, I also got an iPad for Christmas :) I have words with friends that's it.
My 3 yo ds is not allowed to touch it. Once in a while I let him use my iPhone. I think it's important that he knows some things are only mine! He and ds 2 touch everything in this house. Can I have just one darn thing lol!
