I feel torn

This morning I get up, warm up my car and go to work, as soon as I started going 30 mph the car starts to shake, getting more and more intense the further I drive...

I think its the snowy roads and continue.....Well it dosent seem to get better so I pull over to call DH and realize I left my phone @ home...so I turn around...

I get in tell DH, he says its prob the snow, and says let me take it around the corner...so I do!

He comes back and says, its not safe, take my car, we'll drop it off @ nissian when you get home...

So when I got home we dropped it off... The male desk guy (not the mechanic) dressed in his suit walks outside with me, and points to my tire and says "oh its just ice".....I explain I have had many cars and no car has ever done this to this extent, and I dont feel comfortable putting my life, let alone my sons life in a car, that he (who obvoiously didnt get under the car and examine it dressed up) feel is just "ice build up"

He then says fine....this isnt covered under warranty so its gonna be 90 bucks for us to look at it

I feel torn...I dont think its fair that I should take joe shmos word, but I most certainly dont wanna pay $90 for ice....DH swears its not so we left it, but now I feel even if its not ice there just gonna tell us it was and make us pay....

I just dont know what to do...our other car isnt giving us this problem....

i would always err on the side of safety
i would rather pay 90 and be safe than risk it and have something happen

I've never heard of anything like that because of ice. Did you let the car warm up for awhile? It's soooo cold out, maybe that could be it?

I'd be pi$$ed at the guys attitude, though. I'd talk to a manager.

yeah - Its not just ICE.

Maybe, just MAYBE, you need a tire rotation, but it shouldn't have gotten that bad that fast.

I think you did the right thing by leaving it and getting it checked out - if they tell you it's just ice, I'd take it somewhere else.

I had that happen last year...
I freaked out and brought it to the guy near me and he told me

The car heated up for a good 15 min. and was driven for well over a haf an hour.....


I def would leave it no matter what....but I dont feel like i should pay, and def not almost 100 bucks....

Smithtown...

I had major issues at the one on 112...thats why I chose to buy this car...3 MONTHS AGO...from smithtown...

We bought ours at 112 (I think we spoke about this), now we go to Smithtown for service, they are better than 112, but I am not 100% happy with them.

Ice build up in the wheel can cause the car to drive weird. It has something to do with throwing off the balance on the car so it shakes. Knock the ice out of the wheel wells and see if it drives any better. If it does, then you know it was the ice if not, have someone look at it for you. Go to a tire place - they will put it up on the lift for you and look underneath.

Its ashame because it only takes one jerk to totally make you distrust the whole store...

That happened to me with 112, and now smithtown as well!

I have a mechanic who I know, love and trust, but obviously he dosent warranty my brand new car!

I once skidded in to a snowbank. After I got out, the car felt like the wheels were going to come off, the car was shaking so bad. It was just the snow in the wheelwells. I think that could be it but I would rather be safe then sorry.

If it turns out to be something covered by your warranty, maybe they will waive the fee - that happened to us when we brought our car in over the summer.

I just called there, and they said that it was in fact the ice...but there not charging me the $90....

Who knows...what the deal is there... but as long as my car is working and I dont gotta pay for it...sounds good to me!

I would pay the $90 and send a letter to Nissan Corporate.
