I don't understand..

These security/baby blankets with the stuffed animal heads.. what's the purpose of these things? What do they do? I read "good for snuggling" "suggested age 0-6mos". I thought they weren't even supposed to have blankets at that time. And I can't imagine it even being a good blanket with a stuffed animal attatched.

They aren't meant to be actual blankets. They're supposed to be security blanket type things, or "loveys." The animal head makes it appealing to the child and easy to grasp. As for the age recommendation, unfortunately, there are plenty of baby products on the market that are not considered safe by AAP guidelines. But as long as people will keep buying them, companies will keep making them, until they are legally banned from doing so.

What Maureen said. I used to give them to my son and he would snuggle up with them. It actually worked to soothe him.

Yes, a lot of people use them as Loveys for their babies.

We had one for DD6 when she was born and we went into her room one night when she was about 6 months old, to check on her because she was sick and we hadn't heard from her in a while and it was covering her face!

We took it out of the crib and never put it back in.

I know a LOT of people who use them. Personally after seeing that I will never use them again. She had a little babydoll instead that she liked and couldn't be draped over her face. We actually still have "Mimi" the baby doll now!

My dd loves hers she used it to snuggle, especially in the car. I never gave it to her at night when she was small because I am a strong believer of nothing in the crib but the baby. Now that she is over a year she naps with it. She found it to be soothing and comforting.

My son loves his "Mr. Bear" animal head lovey. We gave it to him when we were thinking about weaning him from the paci around 9 months. He didn't really take to it till somewhere around 12m, then he wanted to take it everywhere! Now "Mr. Bear" stays in the crib most of the time but he is essential for nap time and bedtime!

Sasha is obsessed with her monkey. She needs it to sleep, and wants him when she gets upset. It's soemthing introduced to help them self soothe when you are trying to get them to STTN without you going in, etc.

We have one for her room, one for the car-- and a spare. Will be buying a set for the new baby too-- just gotta be something other than "monkey"!.

my DD has 2...she calls them her babies. She grabs one in each arm as she gets in her crib...tucks them sorta under her armpit and snuggles up to the heads and goes to sleep. Sometimes she wants to hold them in the car too...they are def. not meant to be blankets.
She is 16 mos old - I didn't start giving them to her though prob until around 8 mos or so b/c I was new mommy and terrified to have anything in the crib besides her!

my niece has 2 and she FLIPS if she doesn't have them for bed...she's 2 1/2 though..."Bear" and "baby" are their names...

We tried to use one with DC1. I slept with it so it had my "scent" as that is what is supposed to be the soothing part about them. DC never really attached to it. If anything it was a chew rag as he got older and could've cared less if it was around.
It depends on the baby really and the parents preference. I would never put it in the crib with the baby as a PP showed it is a definite hazard. Jmho tho

My DD has one. She LOVES it! She doesn't carry it all over, she just likes it when shes tired. When she was teething she'd hold one arm in each hand and chomp down on the poor things nose. It's name is stinky, lol...stinky pinky.

My Is obsessed with those blankies but only the kind with the satin back. She never had a pacifier or sucked her thumb. She takes the satin and holds it up to her face as a security blanket. We wouldn't survive without them lol
