I cant help but worry even though I shouldnt yet
Bryan isnt walking yet he turned 1 on June 20th. He crawls and cruises like a champ but still no steps. The dr said its totally normal to start until age 18 months but I still cant help myself to worry, his cousin who is 9 days older is walking all over the place and so are the kids in his playgoup which only makes me wonder more why he isnt yet. He defintely is a laid back baby he has been since he was born i know its partly due to his personality but I still worry....

My son didn't start walking until he was 14.5 months. It's totally normal and shouldn't worry!

I was also worried about the same thing. My son didn't start walking until he was 13 months. My nephew didn't start walking until he was 17 months old. Don't worry it will happen. I feel that they all catch up in end anyway.

Michael started walking 2 weeks after his first birthday. You'll be surprised at how out of the blue it is. Today no signs of walking and then tomorrow taking steps all over the place. As a matter of fact I had a cousin come to visit from Florida on a Wednesday and my son had not started walking yet. 2 days later on Friday he started walking.

I agree - I wouldn't worry about it either - especially if the pediatrician has indicated he has no physical issues preventing it.
I had a friend who's kid walked at 18 months. Her kid is more agile than my kids who both walked at 11 months.

Your Dr. is right!
Take it from a teacher of the young that it doesn't matter when they walk, talk, crawl, etc. as long as they eventually do. The "average" age for a child to walk is usually around their 1st b-day. Some do before and some do months after. The important thing is that your child makes milestones with in a few months of the "average". You can't compare your child to someone elses! My DD is doing many things ahead of schedule but she is not yet doing others. They all develop in their own time frame and way. It just depends when he is ready to do it. Your Dr. will tell you if he's concerend about the development of your child.
I know it's hard not to worry, but try not to!

I know it's easier said than done, but it will happen! My DS was 13 months when he *finally* let go of my pinky tip. Try to enjoy not having to run after him...yet!

Re: I cant help but worry even though I shouldnt yet
Molly took her first real unassisted step at 13 months old and then walked at 15 months old. Comparing your child to another child is never a good idea. It just causes you to worry and fear horrible things. Your baby is doing what he is supposed to be. If you said he was 2 and was not walking I would be worried, but 12 months- that is very normal.

Re: I cant help but worry even though I shouldnt yet
My 4 year old didn't walk until he was 16 months old!!! My 12 month old just started crawling...he's gonna walk "later" like his brother.
It DOESN'T matter. By the time they are 3, it all equals out.
AND, I heard, (and it was true with both of my boys), that young children can only focus on developing one aspect of their personality at a time. If your child is developing their language skills, both receptive and communicative...that will take precedence over their physical mobility. And vice versa! My 1 year old has 10 words already. Who has time to walk when he blabbers all day!!!

Re: I cant help but worry even though I shouldnt yet
DD didn't start walking until 13 months. At 8 months she was standing and walking while holding onto things. I swore she would start walking before her 1 year b-day. She didn't . However once she started walking at 13 months she took off and never looked back. You would have thought she was walking for months!
Don't worry and don't compare your child to others. The only thing it will do is drive you crazy and stress out your child.

I worry too because Miranda is 9 months old and shows no real signs of crawling anytime soon. Everyone tells me to count my blessings so that's what I am trying to do.

Re: I cant help but worry even though I shouldnt yet
Jesse will be 14 months tomorrow and is not walking unassisted yet. He stands all by himself. He pushes his walker toy back and forth in the hallway countless times, and is steady as can be, but won't let go. He climbs over and under everything and crawls faster than I can run. And he's been cruising for months. He's just not ready to walk on his own just yet. I'm not going to worry until he's 18 months and if he's still not walking at that point, I'll consult the pediatrician on what to do next.

Re: I cant help but worry even though I shouldnt yet
Like the other moms said, try not to worry. Alex started walking at 14 months too. If he is cruising he will soon get the confidence to let go and start walking. Alex started cruising the furniture at 8 months. It took him a full 6 months before he started walking independently.
