I ate queso blanco without knowing

... And I'm trying not to freak. I'm trying to get through to the restaurant to find out if it's pasteurized. My BIL picked up corn on the cob from there and after I ate it I was like... Wait a sec- what was that? It was good and the place is reputable (A grade) but of course I think worst case. Chat Icon

You and baby will be fine. Seriously...the chances of listeria are so incredibly low in the first place especially from a reputable place. I would relax!

Don't worry. You are fine. I freaked out about eating blue cheese a few months ago and it was nothing. The chance of getting listeria is VERY low.

Most cheese are pasteurized in the US unless you go to a gourmet cheese shoppe and pay top dollar, restaurants need their food to last as long as possible so it is unlikely they would use a cheese that is more money and likely to spoil fast, don't worry!

Re: I ate queso blanco without knowing

Thanks- the reason I was so concerned is because it was a taco stand ... Actually the place is called "rockaway taco" and the strip of stores is all owned by the same owner- in the first store they sell all organic things including raw milk so of course that stuck in my head... But I emailed the restaurant and they were so quick to get back to me--- they use pasteurized milk for the cheese! Chat Icon

Anyway if you find yourself in Rockaway Beach... Go check it out. Delishness to say the least, it's getting all excellent reviews on yelp.
