I am torn about introducing the bottle (BF related)

DD has been EBF from the begining and doing so well. I don't giver her a pacifier or bottle with pumped milk. She will be 6 weeks on Monday and I am debating if I should try and introduce it that way someone could watch her if need be. She eats every 2-3 hours right now durning the day. I am just nervous that if she gets an artifical nipple she will get confused and then she reject me (happened with DS). Plus I have no idea when I would pump.
Did anyone not give a bottle at all?
Did anyone give a pacifier and not have problems?

DS hates the pacifier, so I had no problem with that, but he did prefer the bottle b/c it was easier to get the milk & he got lazy when nursing. I got a great bottle from a recommendation here (thanks to thiadora). It is the Adiri breastbottle nurser. I got it brand new from a store on eBay. I swear by it!

Re: I am torn about introducing the bottle (BF related)

My DD is 7 weeks and we introduced the bottle around 4 weeks. It took her a while to take the bottle, but she finally did, and now she's a pro! - And there's no problem when she's breastfeeding (she only gets a bottle about 4x/week). Also, she didn't take a pacifier until AFTER she took the bottle - no idea if that's related, but she totally rejected it beforehand and now loves it in certain situations.

It's really nice having a break every now and again so someone else can feed her, and I feel a bit more "free" to go places and such knowing I can bring a bottle and not have to worry about BFing out of my home.

I introduced the bottle at 2 weeks per our Ped reco. He said that if needed be, you needed him not to reject the bottle.

He never had a problem latching on neither take the bottle either. As long as it's food.

He does not like the pacifier too much. He gags on it.

Julia never got a bottle or pacifier and I had no problems, she was EBF for 11 months, then went right to the sippy cup with whole milk.

The 11 months was rough not being able to go out for a long period of time cause I had to come home and feed her every 2-3 hours, but I didn't mind, and that was enough time to run out and do what I had to do anyway.

same here but I would feed her at the mall or someone's house etc... I wasn't really a BF anywhere kind of person but I have BF in dressing rooms and bathrooms in a pinch...oh, and the car too...

My daughter BFed for 26 months and she never took a bottle. Other people could still watch her, I'd just have to limit my time out of the house to no more than three hours for the first few months.

She did use a pacifier, but I introduced it much earlier because she was attached to me non-stop -- I wouldn't start that habit now just for the sake of a babysitter! I don't think it will create problems with nursing, just that its a pesky habit to break!

I gave my daughter a pacifier at 3 1/2 weeks because she found her thumb. I started her on a bottle about that time too. She gets one bottle of BM every other day. She feeds just fine even with a bottle.

Ellie took a bottle no problem and went right back to nursing also no problem so I guess it depends on the child.
