I am so sad...
Right now the tree men are here cutting down one of our big, old, beautiful Sugar Maple trees.
It had to go, it got a disease over the last few years and was dying, when you knock on the truck it just sounds hollow.
Yes I am a tree hugger

Re: I am so sad...
I had that happen to a tree in out back yard that I loved. But my Dad went and started growing a tree from a seed we picked up at my aunt's house during her daughter's batism and now we have this beautiful oak tree growing in its place and it's beautiful!

I'm sorry. I'm a treehugger too and also hate to see any tree taken down for any reason. But it sounds like you made the right decision.
Can you plant a smaller tree in another area to make yourself feel better?

Looks like everyone else is EXCITED when they take down a tree...
In your case you had no choice. I hope you plant another one and can watch it grow. We lost a big tree last fall and now have 2 saplings in its place. We still see the neighbors (unfortunately) but I love watching how big the trees are getting!!

Re: I am so sad...
I hated that we had to cut down 4 trees on our property...but they were dying. We replanted 3 trees in there place, so I hope that I have helped the enviroment!

I know how you feel. I try not to judge, or ask, because there may be good reasons for it that I don't know about. I try to remember there are two sides to every story.
You can try to educate people as to the effects it has long-term, and then the only thing left is to do is lead by example.
We have no trees on the property we rent and it's ugly and garish. Nothing compares to the beauty of a big beautiful tree.
It's too easy to undo decades of nature in one weekend with a few chainsaws and a chipper.

Re: I am so sad...
thank you all...
here she is 6 years ago in the middle.
I already have plans for new trees, I just have to try to decide which ones. I need to plan the planting better though because this tree was about a foot from the side of our garage as big as it is. So I want to give the new guys room to grow.
We belong to The National Arbor Day Foundation we have had great luck with their saplings!
