I am so angry
Hoping none of you ladies experience what I've experienced with the NICU at LIJ.
Yesterday I was told by both the day and night nurses that my DD will be discharged today. I was also told by the night nurse DD needed more breast milk and discharge is anytime between 8am and 9pm. I informed her I will be there for the 8:30am feeding, and my DH has to go to work at 2:30pm. I asked what are the chances of DD being discharge by then. She said it shouldn't be a problem.
We arrived at 8:25ish am and I fed DD and DH and I waited for the doctors to make rounds. 2pm no doctor. Nurse guaranteed it shouldn't be a problem and they should be in shortly. DH called his job and explained the circumstances and that he will be late(he's an executive chef so Saturdays is always busy). DH decides to get the car and just wait in front the entrance so when we come out we can just go since he would have to drop DD and I off and get to work. At 4:45pm the nurse then tells me (she found the doctor doing rounds in another room) that she apologize but that its 48 hours after being removed from the isolate that DD has to wait in an open crib prior to discharge(after she and DD nurse the previous night told me 24). I said to her " we've been waiting since 8:30am and you couldn't interrupt the doctor at that time to find out what was going on. Instead you wait after I had already explained DH had to go to work at 2:30pm; to inform me that Dd can't be discharged until midnight". She then explains the doctor is considering an early discharge at 8pm but she won't know until 8pm. If not discharge will be tomorrow.
I am so pissed as well as my DH. I left message for the Nurse Manager on her VM. I wish I was told this at 9am and to be given wrong info 24 hours when its really 48 hours is unacceptable.

Re: I am so angry
Ugh! That is so frustrating! Sorry that happened to you. My DD was in the NICU at St Charles for a few days and I was not pleased with any of he nurses there. People always rave about NICU nurses, and maybe they are great if your LO needs a lot of care, but for little things that can cause a NICU stay, I found the nurses to be annoying.
Just think that DD will be home tomorrow and you'll never have to see them again!

DD was also in the NICU at LIJ Cohens and although the actual patient care was great i felt that they left the parents virtually entirely uninformed unless you asked 1000 questions. they never minded answering but you always had to advocate for yourself and your child. hope you get to bring your DD home soon!!
