Hypothetical situation
(Okay, so it isn't for me )
Your 3-4 year old in full time daycare gets a birthday invite for a bounce place party to be held on July 7 at 10, a little more than two weeks before the event.
You are not friendly with (and maybe never even said a word to or laid eyes on) the party child's parents.
No RSVP date was given but the invite has a phone number to call or an email address to contact.
Tell me what you do ...
(I guess I should divulge, I am the birthday girl's parent, not an invited child's parent )

Re: Hypothetical situation
RSVP yes if "your" DD likes the birthday child, RSVP no if she doesn't even know who the child is.

And LOL at your edit. I'm assuming the invites are going out late?

LOL - see my update.
I invited the entire class (which is actually two classes that are meshed in the early AM/late PM and for some other activities).

Hypothetical situation
What am I missing here? Two plus weeks out seems not so bad to me, and it wasn't like everyone else got invites a month ago except for this girl. If the mom doesn't know you, why wouldn't she just email and say "this is Child's mother, and she will (not) be coming to the party."

Re: Hypothetical situation
Maybe I'm not making sense ... if your child came home with an invite based on what I described would do
(a) not even consider going and quickly RSVP regrets
(b) decline invite and take your sweet time with the RSVP
(c) accept invite and RSVP in a timely manner (whatever a "timely manner is")
(d) accept invite and eventually RSVP
(e) don't RSVP at all
(f) when I get no RSVP's, who wants to come to my daughter's party?

just email and say "this is Child's mother, and she will (not) be coming to the party."
This is what I was hoping for in general.
I received one phone call (decline but sounded sincere about how much her son would have loved coming) and one email decline, saying to contact them if we wanted to GTG for a play date over the summer.
That's two replies out of 23 invites and I was just trying to get a feel of what the LIF audience would do in the invitees situation (and what my expectations should be).
DD's birthday is 7/1 and we will forever have the issue of the July 4th holiday potentially coming to play with people having other plans (it was kinda why I went with the 10AM start).

Re: Hypothetical situation
I would accept invite if DS wanted to go and RSVP as soon as I remember to!

Re: Hypothetical situation
Our summer weekends are pretty booked, but if DS really liked the child and we were free that day, I would email within a couple days to RSVP yes.
I think a lot of the outstanding replies will be no's.

Ditto.
Also 2 weeks is pretty common for the pre-school parties.

Got it. I would assume people know to respond in a timely manner, but I would always give people a deadline. Hopefully you get some responses soon.

Hypothetical situation
At my daughter's school, this is very common. I'm generally bad about RSVPs because the invite is at home, and I think of it during the day at work, when I don't have contact info on me. I think most parents in the class are similar. DH does pick ups and sees more parents, so he generally RSVPs in person. But, I think the teachers often help out and the week of the party they start asking the parents if they are going, and will let the birthday parents know. Maybe you could make up a sheet like an attendance sheet, and ask the teacher to ask during drop offs pick ups. If the teacher agrees, maybe give a starbucks gift card as a thank you...

If we were free that day, and my kid wanted to go to the party, I'd go ......
I don't think there's anything wrong w/ what you did ........
I had parents that I'd never met at ALL but I knew Sean was 'friends' w/ their kids, so I invited the kids - it was actually nice b/c we actually got to meet the parents.

Exactly why I did it!
BTW, it's all your fault because you posted you had Sean's party at Bounce U

Re: Hypothetical situation
I find with pre-school parties, people aren't quick to RSVP. I don't know the reason - I think because many parents don't know each other, they don't feel the "pressure" to RSVP.
Even with a date you will be tracking people down. I don't think it's safe to assume if people don't RSVP they aren't coming.
