Hybrid car tax rebate?
Does this still exist? I think I recall reading about how 2007 or 2006 may have been the last year for this.

I believe it's valid for cars from 2006 on.

Re: Hybrid car tax rebate?
Don't quote me on this, but I believe if you're buying the car now, in 2008, you won't get any tax credit. Sorry Charlie.

Re: Hybrid car tax rebate?
he thinks that there are more expensive repairs required. I have never heard of this. His main arguement is- "You never make back (in gas savings)the money you spend". We have different outlooks on the reasons for hybrids, clearly. But $2200 back isn't too shabby.

Like, ever? I'm assuming we would get the money back in 2009- no?

I just found this on the site, so you are probably right!
* According to the IRS, this reflects a decrease in the credit amount as of Oct. 1, 2006, due to the manufacturers meeting quarterly sales of 60,000 quotas.*

The problem is that since hybrids became more popular, the IRS started a phase-out program by manufacturer. Certain vehicles are still eligible, but once a manufacturer hits a certain selling quota, that's it...no mas.
But if your car does qualify, then yes, you would get the credit in 2009. That does not mean it would get you additional money back tho, since I believe the credit was a nonrefundable credit.
The whole purpose of the credit was as an incentive for people to start buying these cars, and since now they're so common, they're phasing out the credits.

Re: Hybrid car tax rebate?
The repairs are not necessarily more expensive per se, but most dealers have only one person (usually their master tech) who is qualified to fix the hybrid batteries. Most other mechanics can fix non-battery or non-electrical problems. The book time to fix certain problems may or may not be longer than a non-hybrid counterpart.

Re: Hybrid car tax rebate?
I just got my prius two weeks ago & I didn't make the cut-off of 60,000 hybrids sold. It ***** I missed the rebate but I'm averaging 50.4 miles to the gallon....I drive 100 miles a day & I keep my cars for years. My Prius was less than 25,000 with several option out the door. Not much more than lots of small four door cars.

Re: Hybrid car tax rebate?
just think about how good it is for the environment and how it decreases your carbon footprint.
It's good for the environment. Very good.
