Hurricane and labor
anyone hear that there is a correlation between hurricanes and labor?...supposedly the change in barometric pressure induces labor!!
Hopefully me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hurricane and labor
changes in pressure can cause your water to break. one of my friends had her baby the day of a big storm. her water broke that morning. it was also 2 days before her due date, so you can't be sure there's a correlation, but i think the theory is if you are close, it can be the triggering factor.

Re: Hurricane and labor
There is some evidence that a drastic drop in barometirci pressure can help to bring on labor. Just like the strong gravitational pull from a full moon!!

Re: Hurricane and labor
HOLY CRAP!! I just came on to post about this! DH and I just got back from dinner at my parent's house and my mom was telling me that the science teacher from her school was talking to her today about this. I think it sounds logical and is totally possible. So, I'm wondering.....could I go into labor tonight or tomorrow??? I would only be 1 day late if it happened tomorrow. WOW!!! LETS HOPE!!!

I keep tracking the weather to see when the worst of the storm will be here. C'mon barometric pressure............keep dropping!!!!!
I went online and Googled this whole thing and it would seem there is truth in it so maybe we'll all get lucky this weekend. Fingers crossed!!!

I heard this as well. The nurse said the same during classes for my first. She also said there tends to be more babies when there's a full moon

I have heard the hurricane thing, and maybe there is some validity sine the pressure in a hurricane is lower than any other pressure. However the gravitational pull of the moon is no different during the full moon than any other phase. People are probably thinking this because the tides are higher - spring tides, and this happens because the sun, moon, and earth are aligned - so you get a combined gravitational pull from the sun and the moon. HOWEVER - the same thing happens during the new moon phase and there are no tales about more people giving birth during a new moon... Sorry for the science lesson.
