Huntington
So I'm currently apartment hunting, and I have been coming across a bunch of places in different areas of Huntington. I know some are better than others, but I don't know which ones specifically. These are the parts that I see most often:
Huntington Huntington Station South Huntington Hungtington Village
Please give me some insight!
p.s. school districts are not a factor
TIA!

Re: Huntington
The Village is up North, kinda far from the highway. By all the fun bars and restaurants. Depending on where you work--if you need highway access--its a fantastic area.
South Huntington is where I grew up, but this is really a name to shield it from being called Huntington Station (which it technically is). I grew up in South Huntington, West Hills area, this is the area around West Hills Road, west of 110, south of Jericho, and North of Melville. LOL
There is a really really BAD part of Huntington Station which is the streets surrounding NY Ave. Its weird though, because theres a perfectly nice area surrounding it, so it depends on what block you're on. I don't want to offend anyone, so I'm not going to post where I wouldn't want to live. If you have specific streets, feel free to FM me.
Also Huntington is the area North of Huntington Station but south of town.

ITA with this. Some of the listings might also be for other parts of the Town that aren't actually Huntington.
Happy to help as well if you want another set of eyes.

Re: Huntington
I am in S. Huntington, love the area and it's close to all parkways, mall, etc..
I would stay away from parts of Huntington Station as the other poster said.
If you want to be in the center of all the action (Restaurants, Bar's, etc..) then Huntington Village is where you want to be.
Hope this helps

Re: Huntington
I'm just outside the village and love it! I just need to build in a little extra time (like 10-15 mins or so) to get to LIE or Northern State.

Re: Huntington
if no kids are in the picture right now, I would jump at Huntington Village. it's not super close to parkways, but it's not a bad trip down woodbury rd to SOB/135
I agree that the others can be pretty vague.

Re: Huntington
Check the LIRR schedule if you travel. I've heard from a lot of people that it is not a great station because of the schedule.

Re: Huntington
listings are very vague when looking in Huntington, BTDT! We are right outside the village off of Woodbury Road. FM if you have questions.
I WILL say they are trying to work on the area on NY Ave. in South Huntington, they are currently making a new park past that KMart.

Re: Huntington
Actually, that new park is in Huntington Station (by the Kmart),. It is going to be both a park and a community garden. South Huntington is south of Jericho Turnpike. The Town of Huntington is attempting to clean up the so-called "bad" parts of Huntington Station, but it will take a little time. That having been said, the "bad" parts are very spotty. As a previous poster mentioned, you may have a street that is considered "bad" right near one that is considered "good". Definitely take people up on their offers to have you FM them the streets you are interested in. If I can be of any help, please let me know.

Re: Huntington
Thanks so much everyone! Once I line up a few places that I want to go and look at and get the address I will ask if the area is ok or not.
I really appreciate it!

My favorite house of all time is on Woodbury!
I was wondering what they were doing there.
Huntington and Huntington Station are so big...Some parts are great and other parts are not. If you drive around, it's pretty easy to see which ones are not places you want to live.

Re: Huntington
BTW, my boss has lived in a"bad part" of HS for 20 years and feels totally safe and loves most of her neighbors.
YMMV - I honestly wouldn't want to live there, yet I live pretty close to her and love my very safe street/neighborhood. (There is a house for sale right down the road from me too!)
