Hug Your Pets Tonight - A Scary Story!!!!!

DH calls me at work today- he says "Your daughter (my cat, Pookie) took a nice little stroll around town this morning!!! What?????????

We're in a basement level apt so the windows are high up and level with the ground outside. Pookie usually chills on the window ledges and looks outside - there's space for her to sit. She is an indoor cat - she has escaped out the front door once or twice and given Mommy a heart attack. So - at some point this morning - she (somehow) tears a HUGE HOLE in one of the screens - the window was open - and she left!!!!!!
I didn't see her this morning - she usually hangs out in the bathroom with me in the morning so it was a little weird - but no biggie.

So - DH gets up and some point this morning- and I guess he looks at the window - and sees this HUGE HOLE and - you're never going to believe this - SHE IS SITTING OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOW ON THE OTHER SIDE (on the ground) LOOKING IN!!!!!

We have no idea how long she was out, we have no idea if she went anywhere - she was probably so perplexed that she just sat and looked back in the apt! All I can say is someone is looking down on me - I don't even want to think of what could have happened !!!!

I asked DH how he got her in and he said he turned on the electric can opener and she came running back in through the hole b/c she thought she was getting fed!

I have been hugging her and squeezing her so hard - I think I have to lock her in the closet from now on!

That would scare the poop out of me. It is one of my biggest fears that my cats would get out. They wouldn't have a clue what to do.

Glad she is home and safe. Chat Icon

Re: Hug Your Pets Tonight - A Scary Story!!!!!

So glad to hear she is safe and sound.

Espresso did that when we lived in our apartment. He pushed a hole in the screen and apparently snuck out. We caught him one night when we were coming home (in the rain) we saw him jump up on this little step thingy and then go to the window. DH said to me, there's a cat by our window - when we went in the house he was sitting in "his spot" but he was wet so we realized it was him. We have no idea how long he had been "sneaking out" but we certainly fixed that screen right away!!!
We call that his teenage years!Chat Icon

Re: Hug Your Pets Tonight - A Scary Story!!!!!

sorry for the heart attack. We can love and protect our furbabies as much as humanly possible but they are after all animals, and do crazy things beyond our control.

I'm sure you will be loving her up for the next few days, and now extra paranoid...

So glad she is safe and sound!Chat Icon

Re: Hug Your Pets Tonight - A Scary Story!!!!!

that reminds me of the time that my ex-fiance was putting an air conditioner in the window - we lived on the second floor of a house (in an apartment) an there was a porch on the front of this house. the window he was putting the air conditioner in was facing that front part of the house. He walked away fro the WIDE OPEN window and my Mugsy (kitty cat) walked right out the window and down the roof of the porch. I made the ex go out onto the porch and get him. The porch was slanted and of course Mugsy was at the very edge meowing and freaking out!

Sorry that happened Chat Icon

My 2 brats (TJ and Lincoln) have both done that to me and escaped. They push the screen out. So now I can only open the windows enough for them not to put their full weight on it. Somehow cats always find their way back Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So glad she is ok.

That's a good lesson...I live on the third floor. If Chloe got out....oy vey!! I wonder if people have child gates on windows because of pets.
