HSG?
I went for my first visit with my RE a few weeks ago. He diagnosed me with PCOS and IR and I started metformin a few weeks ago. This cycle, I am going to try clomid with timed intercourse. He suggested the HSG, but advised against it (for the time being) because of the risk of infection. He suggested that I try this route first before having the HSG.
Do you think I should insist on having the HSG? And what does it involve?

Re: HSG?
IMO, I would get the HSG out of the way to make sure you do not have any blockages. I made sure to have the HSG done before doing any Clomid cycles.

Re: HSG?
IMO, I would. If you have blocked tubes, your cycle could be useless. Also, did he tell you risks of Clomid? If taken for a long period, it could actually reverse it's intentions and thin out your lining.
It is really up to you but if you do go through this cycle and it doesn't work, I would not do a second cycle on Clomid without a HSG.
Good Luck with your decision!

Re: HSG?
I did two timed intercourse cycles before getting an HSG. My tubes were all clear. The cycle I did the HSG I did not ovulate. I had to stop the metformin a few days before the HSG and then could not go back on it until I had a blood test done to test kidney function. By the time the results came back, I w as off the met for almost two weeks. I don't know if this is why I did not respond at all to the clomid that cycle, but I can't help but wonder. So because of that, I think its worth waiting a couple of cycles. But on the other hand, if you do have a blockage, then timed intercourse or IUI is a waste of time.

Re: HSG?
I am scheduled for an HSG on Wednesday. Once we have the results from that, we will make our decision as to what course we want to take.

Re: HSG?
Personally, after having an RE tell me I didn't need an HSG and then finding out after going to another RE that my tubes were blocked and my IUI's were pointless....Have the HSG. If your tubes are in any way blocked, you are wasting your time with timed intercourse or IUI's.
ETA: The HSG is a test where they inject a dye into your uterus and watch on a screen to make sure it drains through your tubes. They can see any blockages or swelling in your tubes on the screen. It's mildly uncomfortable...I recommend taking a couple Motrin an hour before the test if you have a low pain tolerance, but you feel fine afterwards. I went back to work.
