How will you be sterilizing your bottles?
I was thinking about getting the microwave sterilzer kit for the dr. browns bottles...is this something that we need or can we sterilze it ourselves?
What is everyone planning on doing?

I had that and returned it. With all this plastic and microwave stuff being no-no's I'll just boil them and then run them in the dishwasher.

1. Wash bottles with warm soapy water;
2. Boil water;
3. Put bottles, nippes, etc. in the boiling water.
That's it. That is all you need to do. Or you can put them in the dishwasher if you had one.

The nurses in NICU told me this is the best way to sterilize bottles.

My DS is 5 weeks old....I sterilize using the Dr. Browns Microwave sterilizer. Without taking into consideration the issues coming up now about the plastic bottles, I have to say that this is one of the most useful items that I received as a gift. I was a little hesitant to put it on my registry because a lot of people say to just use the dishwasher. However, other than the baby it is just DH and I in our house. We don't produce enough dishes to run the dishwasher every night. The sterilizer is so easy. Wash the bottles, put them in the sterilizer with water, throw in the microwave for 5 minutes and then done. Boiling water works too but I found that this is much quicker. Just one moms opinion. Hope that helps.

I bought a sterilizer and a warmer when i was prego and used nothing.
I specifically read in some book that came in the mail like baby talk it was only necessary to sterilize 1x. Ii did just that and just was all Dr brown parts in anti-bacaterial soap.
I also only heated the formula 1x because it took longer to use it then to heat under running water.

Question (sorry for the ignorance  ) but do you put them in the boiled water or boiling water - like should it still be on and boiling or just boil it, remove it from the heat and throw the nipples and bottles in until it cools?
(Obviously, this is my first baby  )

 after you asked this question I acutally questioned it as well... but I'm pretty sure you put them in while the water is boiling! And leave them in for 5 minutes, then shut the stove off and remove them!

the directionds on the bottels that I have say before 1st time use sterlilz with boiling water then you can use the dishwasher top rack only ???????

You girls are too cute. My mom and sister did it for me the first time, but after that I just boiled the water, while I was washing the bottles and then shut off the heat and put the bottles in. The water holds the heat, so it works nice.
