How to get milk supply up
My DD is 8 weeks. Is it too late to get my milk supply up? I supplemented with formula for the irst 7 weeks and this past week I nursed all day every day and she seems pretty satisfied so I'm assuming she's getting enough milk but by the end of the day, I feel pretty empty still. So I end up giving her formula at bedtime and when she wakes up once midde of the night. I pump after I put her back down, usually around 2-3am. Then it's back to nursing around 5-6am when she wakes up. It's starting to get really down and frustrated about not producing enough. I feel like I messed up big time by supplementing those first 7 weeks . Can I still get my milk supply up at this point at 8 weeks pp?? Has anyone successfully increased milk supply?? When I do pump about 15 minutes, I get about 1 to 1 1/2 each breast. Any foods, drinks, strategies, etc? Thanks for any help!

Re: How to get milk supply up
Drinking lots of water and fenugreek worked for me. I've also heard that eating oatmeal and taking more milk plus works. You can also try to add a pumping session or two in and nurse as much as you can. The more you nurse and pump the more it signals your body that the baby needs more so you produce more.

It's pretty normal to produce more milk in the morning and less in the evening. Even at 9 months, DD goes much longer between feedings in the morning than later in the day. It sounds like you're doing great getting back to nursing. I would try to bf in the evenings, maybe every hour or two if they're willing, before you put them to bed. The baby will be better at draining your breast and at stimulating your milk production than the pump. Same at night, try nursing instead of pumping. You can always give an ounce or two after you nurse and then try to wean DC off of that.
Drinking water, fenugreek, oatmeal, pumping regularly are all helpful but the best thing you can do is nurse more imo. Good luck, sounds like you're off to a great start!

Ita, the truly only thing to up your milk is to nurse or pump more. You can try power pumping- ive never done it personally but ive read it works for some. Just google power pumping.

Re: How to get milk supply up
(my daughter is 3 now ) but when she was younger i worked with a lactation consultant to help b/c we were having problems. she had me pumping after each feed to increase production and stock pile milk in the freezer. after a few weeks i was getting 6-8+ ounces per pumping. my daughers ped couldn't believe it. looking back i think i was pumping too much b/c i was too full sometimes.
