How to cut an onion without tearing up?
As soon as the peel is off I'm tearing up and if I'm in the room with a cut onion for more than five minutes they are burning and I can't see through the tears. I cut up an onion a few hours ago and my eyes are still stinging. How does everyone else do it?

There was a post about this a while ago and I followed the suggestions I could remember--
freeze the onion for a few minutes AND
hold a piece of bread in your mouth while cutting the onion
AND ... something about running water while you cut it? I forget, but I tried the 2 above and they worked for me!

If you keep the onions in the fridge, you don't tear as much.

This is what I do. It burns the vapors. Freezing prevents the vapors from dispersing into the air.

Thank you for posting this! I never knew you could do those things - I tear up so much DH used to wonder why I was crying while cooking until I explained the whole onion thing. I have to try these suggestions
