how soon before you closed did you get home ins. quotes?
We are closing at the end of October (hopefully) and I am not sure when I should look into home owners insurance?
Do they run your credit each time you get a quote? TIA

We are also looking to close end of October and we already have our Policy set up.

The day my appraisal came in, I got quotes. A week later, I had the policy. I don't think sooner is worst than later or vice versa. I'd take some time to really shop around, it's fun to see who wants to rip you off and who actually tried to work with you.

ETA: They will not run your credit to give you a quote. Some (not all) will run it after you get your application submitted.

We are looking to close first week in Oct and I bound my Insurance yesterday. It's better to do it sooner then later, just make the effective date of the policy around when you think closing will be.
When I spoke to my Mortgage Broker, he told me to get it ASAP the banks want it way in advance and need it to clear the loan.

I would start looking now, because you want to have time to shop around, but my mortgage company kept asking me if we had it yet or not. You need it before the approve your mortgage or at least that is what I was told. GL!

I was told that I needed it before I got a "Clear to Close" from the bank. Not having a clear to close made me nervous. Then again, EVERYTHING makes me nervous!
