How old was your DC when you let DC go on the playground equipment alone?
We followed DS's every step around the playground last summer (14-18m).
Is he going to be ok going on the playground equipment alone at 25-26m?
I'm just wondering if it would be ok to let him go down a slide while I watch him from the benches with a newborn.

by 18 months old I would just stand on the bottom and watch for when he went near the open areas. He was walking at 10 months so by 18 months he was pretty stable on a playground.
I think its one of those things where you have to kinda loosen up your reigns and see how he does etc, to see what he can/cant handle and then adjust accordingly.
When I watch my friends DD, who is going to be 2, I follow her around! She just isnt as stable and aware, she would walk right off a ledge without even thinking 2x!

I think you're going to have to wait and see how you feel on this one.
Personally, I don't just sit on the bench while DDs (ages 3 and 5) are on the playground stuff and I'm super-laid back. But then again, my park's equipment, IMO, is a bit scary for the younger ones...there are definitely areas they could get seriously injured on.

We live in the city and the playgrounds are made of metal. I have witnessed some pretty bad injuries of little ones with blood gushing everywhere. I've seen this happen when the parent was right behind the child as well as when the child was on the equipment alone.
I feel like I will still be following DS around.

DS was 28 months when I had DD.
He was old enough to go on by himself, but I would still walk around the playset close to where he was while he was on it.

I've been letting DD on playground equipment alone since 18 months. I did stand at the bottom of ladders or in open areas to make sure she didn't fall until age 2 1/2, but unless the equipment was so huge that I couldn't see her by standing on the playground in one spot I didn't follow her around.
This is at a toddler playground. There are several playgrounds near me and the equipment is different at each one. Some equipment requires hovering even now at age 3.
