How old to take DC canoeing on Nissequogue?

Before DS, DH and I used to go canoeing on the Nissequogue and always had a blast. DS is 2.5. I am thinking this *may* be too young.

How old was your child when you first brought them?

I know it can be a long trip vs. just canoeing on a pond or lake which is why I ask for this specifically.
