How old for Lego Duplo?

Just curious. Trying to think of things for xmas. Some of the boxes as 18 months+ some say 2 years+.

DS will only be 10 months at Xmas and I know that's probably too young- but what about a few months later when he's a year/14 months?

Re: How old for Lego Duplo?

We let DS start playing with the blocks around a year old. He really couldn't do much with them but he had fun holding them. The pieces are really big so they fit in his hand I didn't worry about him choking on them (although I still watched him closely). Now at 2 years old he absolutely loves them!

I'm considering mega bloks- seems a little more age appropriate BUT then if it's just a few more months to duplo is it a waste?

Or would you skip duplo all together and go from mega bloks to legos?

Well, my kids are almost 22 months now and play with the mega blocks every day. They are just now starting to "get" how to build with them, rather than just putting a couple together here and there. I don't think they are a waste at all.

I was checking out the ages of mega, duplo, and regular lego and it looks like you're right. Mega works for kids like 1 -2, duplo seems good until like 5, and then real legos I guess from 5 until maybe 8 (or whenever it's not cool to play lego anymore, lol).

I think I'm gonna go w/ mega (but not overboard- just basic blocks and maybe the train) and then maybe duplo can be for next xmas/ 2nd bday.

Thanks everyone!
