How old for a sippy cup?
So at DD's 6 month visit the ped said we can start trying a sippy cup. I was a little - I really thought 6 months was a bit young. She said they make sippys for 6-12 months old- really more of a "practice" cup than anything else. She said to try it once a day, see if she likes it.
I got one in target that said it was a "first cup" and it was for 6 months and up. I put some water in it, she took it, knew what to do with it- she put the tip right in her mouth. But she seemed bored by it- she wasn't very interested in drinking from it. Maybe it was because it was water in there and she could care less about water.
Anyway- how old was your DC when they started on a sippy? I jut feel like 6 months might be too young.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
Our ped said to try it at 5-6 months too. DD is 7 months and I still haven't tried it. I bought it...I washed it...I had all intentions of trying it...but I haven't. lol. Maybe this weekend.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
DS didn't "get it" until he was 10 months. Some babies get it much earlier though. Let her play with it and bite it.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
We gave DD one at 7 months bc she kept trying to get DS's. So far she chews on the straw, but can't figure out how to get anything out of it.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
We started at about 6 months with a training sippy and now at almost 8 months he is a pro. He loves water and gets excited when I bring it out after his food.
Like PP said, it is really just practice, to learn how to hold it.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
we started at 5.5 months. she just gnaws at the tip but i give it to her everyday just for practice. she bites down on the tip, gets water out that way but sometimes swallows, sometimes just lets the water run out of her mouth. you might have to try a few different sippys too...

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
I started around 6 months and did it here and there. At 12 months she's on all sippys no more bottles. It was a very easy transition. The only thing i noticed she gave us a problem wtih was the Playtex sippy cup (that we had originally started with) We now use the Pampers one.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
I started at 6 months with DD. Really just putting it front of her during meal times. She really didn't take to it until she was 9 months old or so.
6 months is still a little young. But IMO, just having it around gets them used to it.

Re: How old for a sippy cup?
We started about 6.5 months, but he didn't really take it. ARound 8.5 months he started taking the Born Free ones. Now at 11 months he's a pro and we use Playtex beginners.

i gave my boys the sippy cup at 6 months. they knew how to hold it and put it up to their mouths but even now they still chew on the straw part.
