How old for a broadway show?

My son is 5 and my daughter is 3. They have enough of an attention span to watch a child appropriate movie (Cars, Wall-E, Tangled). Do you think they are old enough to go see the Lion King on Broadway?

i would say it depends on the child. If your child is really interested in it, they may sit through it. i think I brought my oldest to a show when she was 3 or 4 and she loved it and sat through the whole thing, while we went with a friend who's child is the same age and had no interest and wouldn't sit still for more than 5 minutes.

IMO the Lion King on broadway isn't for little kids. I think they might get bored easily since the lions are just people it is more abstract

I took my DD to Mary Poppins for her birthday when she was 5. She is good at movies, etc., but honestly we both got antsy sitting in those tiny little seats, so we left at intermission.

I took DD#1 to see Mary Poppins for her 5 th birthday. She has trouble sitting but will sit through a movie. She was a bit fidgety but never got up and LOVED it. She is begging us to take her again. I was worried she would sit but was very pleased.

DD#2 on the other hand is a very good sitter but gets fidgety at movies I will hold off for a while even though she is younger and a good sitter.

I think the key is getting good close seats. The further back you are the less interested the kids seemed to get. We had front row mez seats. The show was full of kids ranging from 3 to about 8. I think the key is knowing your child. My girls go to shows locally which is a great way to break them in. There is a playhouse in port washington and tiles center (and I think smithtown has one too) that offer various children's productions. They are in the $20 range which is a cheaper way to see how your child would do before shelling out considerably more on a broadway show to discover they aren't interested.

No way. Cost of a broadway show is so high and the amazing thing about it is the quality of the voices live, which your kids will not appreciate, IMO.

Circus, yes, christmas spectacular, yes, local production maybe... But broadway? I think many full grown adults don't appreciate it.

Re: How old for a broadway show?

My kids have gone to the circus, local shows and other live events and done fine. As for the expense, my in-laws offered to take us, but thanks for your POV about the expense. I am well aware how much these things cost which is why I wanted to hear from other parents who have taken their children to see broadway shows. My in-laws wanted to do this last year when DD was 2 and I said to hold off on it.

Every time the Lion King advertisement comes on my kids both are mesmerized by it. Besides Mary Poppins and Annie are there any other shows you would recommend? Thanks.

We had 2nd row seats, amazing view, but I'm telling you, we were packed in like sardines. It was SO uncomfortable. Thank goodness the tickets were free with miles.

Re: How old for a broadway show?

we grew up on broadway shows an started going very young- I think my sister was 4 or 5 for the first one and I was like 7 or 8. We saw Les Mis which obviously wasnt the most kid friendly but my miom played the tape in the car from the show for weeks ahead of time and when we went, we knew every song and had a blast.

I have seen Lion King & Mary Poppins- I loved both! Maybe just pick up the sound track ahead of time to get them used to and loving the music!

Re: How old for a broadway show?

Theatres dont allow kids under the age of 4 its a standard policy. Also for the price of a ticket to see a broadway show I would wait until at least 5

that's not the case with the Disney Shows- they recommend 4 but don't exclude younger

There were children around 2 there when we went to see Mary Poppins. I know most shows say they recommend age 5 I believe.

That theater is known for having tiny seats and being cramped which is why we went for 1st row mez (they were my DD's 5th birthday gift from my parents for just her and I). We had a lot of room in that row but others looked cramped.

Re: How old for a broadway show?

I can't wait to take DD to Broadway, but she's only 2.5. We've gone to a few local childrens' theater productions and she was great- but those tickets were only $10 so if we had to leave it wouldn't be too horrible.

Re: How old for a broadway show?

I have to say that when we went to see Lion King, there is a part that gets very dark and loud, and MANY children started screaming and crying. I kind of found it to be a little annoying since we paid a lot of money for our seats, and could barely hear through the crying. So unless I was COMPLETELY sure that my daughter would sit and not make a peep, I wouldnt take my daughter to a Broadway show.

Re: How old for a broadway show?

THe amount of money you spend on a ticket make sure they can sit the whole time. I have not taken DD to see a broadway show yet ( she is seeing Annie next month with my mother) and she is 5 1/2. She went to the opera at 4 which she was great at.
