How old does your DC have to be... with poll

before you will let them get up alone? What I mean by that is that they get up in the morning, and you sleep in. DS is three and gets up very early (usually between 5:30AM and 6:30AM, even on weekends) and I am looking forward to the day when he is up and I'm still sleeping. Right now I worry about his safety with stairs, walking out the front door (yes, he can open both locks and doors), having a tv or some large piece of furniture fall on him, etc. So, what do you think - what age is safe for him to be up without me?

Definately not for awhile IMO. DD is 2.5 and I know I wont let her wander around alone in the AM for a long time.

DS is 5.5 and once in a while he gets up and hangs out in the living room and waits for us to get up. He's usually very quiet about it, so we don't often hear him. If we do hear him, we get up. Probably when he's 6, we'll just let him fend for himself..... he's never even attempted to open the outside doors without us.

My Bff's DD's are 3 & 4 years old. They wake up in the morning, grab their sippy cups which their mom has prepared from the bottom shelf of the fridge, and head down to the basement to watch Noggin every morning.

She is so lucky! Mine bursts into my bedroom announcing "hi guys! let's watch tv" or something similar. Looks like my DS will not be on his own in the morning for quite a while.

My boys are 3.5 and 4.5 and they get up and play quietly in one of their bedrooms until they are completely starving and feel compelled to wake me. And then I make them wait 15 more minutes.Chat Icon

My DS is 4-1/2 and he pretty much can be independant.... he'll read or play with some toys and be fine. It's when he wants to watch TV, then he comes in and tells me he needs me to change the channel... Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD is 2-1/2 and still in the crib, so I hear her calling out for me. I am very lucky in that my kids are not awake before 8 a.m. If they are, it's rare! They go to bed around 9 and sleep until 8-8:30 or later if DH doesn't wake them up getting ready for work Chat Icon
