How Often Do You Have An Oil Delivery

I had $311 worth of oil delivered 11/18 and I get home Thursday (12/16) to find another $300 bill
Its my first year with General. My last place would come every 6-8 weeks. Does this sound right to you?

I guess I'm keep my temp like 2 degrees higher than usual so this may be why. Geez 2 degrees really does make a difference

We had something very similar happen. 2 oil deliveries about a month apart, each for around $300. We're first time homeowners so I was a bit shocked but it's been pretty cold so I guess it makes sense. I don't even want to think about January/February oil bills

Our last fill up was in October and we'll probably need another in January.

BUT.. we have a fairly small house, a very efficient burner and we have 3 different zones for heating so we stagger the heating.. which seems to work for us!

Depends. If you are new to the company they need to see your usage so in the colder months they will come each month. My oil company has delivered to us in May then Sept, then Nov and one more this month. Are you on a budget plan? I recommend them because then it's not as painful when the bill comes.

I use between 4-5 gallons a day of oil in the winter.

yes a few degrees can make a very big difference. We were at 68-69 last-year and 65-66 this year. We are using about 1/2-2/3 as much oil. It is cold in the house but we just bundle up.
Also i t depends on the efficiency of the boiler. We have a crappy old boiler

we had a $400+ delivery in November and just got another one last week for $300+. This is our first year in the house and even though we keep it cool (never higher than 67) it's a big old house. I may have to move out come January and February though. Ugh......

This is why I never do a contract. I get between 3 and 4 fill ups a year. I got oil last March (we have a gas hot water heater) and I still have alittle less than 1/2 a tank. I will probably need oil again in January and then again in March.

We have 3 zones (one in the basement - which I hardly ever turn up over 60) and then 1 for the 1st floor and one for upstairs. I too stagger the heat and I change my programs constantly. If I know we are going to be out all day on Saturday I will adjust the program accordingly. Also, if I am leaving the house earlier in the day then usual I will turn the heat down before I leave.


ETA - I have a 275 gallon tank and I went thru old receipts and I usually fill it on average of 3x a year.

Depends on the size of your house & what you keep the heat at. We had a delivery on November 19th ($400) and we will probably need another one the beginning of January. We keep our heat btwn 67-70 & we have a 3 floor split. HTH

they typically come every 3-4 weeks in the winter...
oil companies who deliver automatically monitor the temps outside, etc to determine when to come. they also do smaller ones like that so that you are never hit with a huge bill.

2-3 times a year. We have a 275 gallon tank I think...We have two zones, and keep it pretty cold, 60 at night, 64-66 during the day.
