How often do you do the right thing???
I thought about this today while DH and I were talking.. last year he lost his wallet. We know where and when he lost it but didn't realize until the next day and by then it was gone.
He had over $500 cash in it. Plus his drivers license with his name and address and all his credit cards.
I think the LEAST the person could have done was sent back the wallet. I would have... and probably even with the money still in it!

DH and I always do. Our parents taught us well. I always put myself in someone else's shoes.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
I would like to think I always do the right thing... I think I do
I have given back money if a cashier counts the change incorrectly, becasue I can remember those days I was a cashier and I'd goofed and paid for it
And as you said, bad enough when you lose a wallet and have to deal with replacing all your credit cards/license/etc.. the least a person can do is mail it as you said! I would NEVER keep someone's wallet and I would most definitely return it WITH the CASH in it, because Lord knows how I'd feel if I lost my wallet and how grateful I'd be if it was returned

Yes many times we get cashiers at places who give us too much change and we correct them always. We have even gone out to eat and the waitress gave us a bill added up wrong in our favor and we corrected that as well.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
Almost always. I totally beleive in Karma. I also like to treat people like I would like to be treated. DH has found several cell phones and always calls the person to let them know we have it and give it back to them.
The only time I don't do the right thing is when it involves a big corp. For example, years ago an employee at the Wiz misscanned my product for a lot less than it was. I didn't let them know. Maybe that's why they went out of business But a mom and pop store, I always do.

I lost my pocketbook once in the city when i was in grad school...Had to have my mom come and pick me up from LI!
By the time i got home i had a message waiting for me from the person who found it!

I agree maybe when I was younger I didnt always to the right thing but then it would sit with me for awhile. As I got older I realized I should put myself in somone elses shoes.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
Hmmmm in terms of finding someones wallet I would give it back because I know how upset I would be if that happened to me. PLus I like the warm fuzzy feeling I get when I do something nice!
Now that doesnt mean I always do the right thing. I have done some bad things in the past!

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
Like LadyLainez, I think of how the other person feels, so I usually do the right thing 99% of the time, but lately, I'm seeing that sometimes, doing the right thing screws me over, so I'm starting to second guess this option

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
Justice or lack there of is something that always, always gets under my skin. Ask anyone who knows me. If I hear about something unjust I just go on and on for hours about it... what is wrong with people, etc., etc. I guess in that way I'm a true libra.
I'm also a firm believer in Karma. Definitely, what goes around comes around. I always try to do the right thing especially when it involves an innocent mistake on someone's part. If they really **** me over well, then I want them to get MY justice.
Wallet... I definitely would give it back with all of the money. I'd do my best to find the person and hand it to them directly.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
I always try to do the right thing. Like a few other posters above, I really believe that what comes around goes around. When I was in college, I got a message on my answering machine that someone had found my wallet. I hadn't even realized it was missing! It had fallen out of my backpack during a lecture. The cleaning person found it when she was cleaning the room. I went there the next morning to retrieve it and she wouldn't eve take a reward for it. Now being a college student, there wasn't a lot of money in there to begin with , but she was so nice about the whole thing! She even gave me a little lecture about how some people wouldn't have been so honest and I need to keep a better eye on my things!

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
Yes I always try to do the right thing. Just last week I had a change incident with a cashier at a 7-eleven. I actually would have gotten the item for free and money back on top of it!! But I pointed out the mistake. Needless to say I didn't even get a thank you or a sorry or anything but whatever.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
true story
when i was in high school, i was at a strip club sitting at a bar watching the girlies dance. Well, the girls usually come over, give you a little dance and then you give them a dollar.
Well, this girl comes over and between my um "excitement" and the fact that it was dimly lit, i pulled out what i thought was a one, but was actually a 20. The girl notices the 20 and lunges for it. I'm like, "chicks dig me, but not THIS much". I noticed my mistake at the last minute and changed the 20 for the 1.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
Here is a nice story- My mother had surgery in NYC and left her pocket book in the back of a cab that dropped her off at my brothers apartment.
The cab driver took my mom's address book, looked up the address where he dropped her off, and called to return it.
I think my dad gave him money- everything was there, cash and all.

Re: How often do you do the right thing???
I always try to when possible. Like this one time, on a college campus, I saw this girl wearing a short-ish skirt with a backpack on. The backpack was causing her skirt to ride up and she was about to give everyone a show. I stopped her and told her b/c I figured I would want to know, right?
