how much would you spend on your BFFs birthday gift?

my friend is hard to buy for.

she has had a REALLY tough year (shes sick as most know)

i know there is something she really wants, its $420. she was telling me but not in a "will you buy me it?" way at all.

im actually arguing with her for teh link and keep telling her "i cant afford that anyway"

I do think that is too much to spend, unless you are so wealthy that the money means nothing to you. I spend under $50 on my bff...It depends on whether I see something I know she'll love.

I think that is a lot of money. Perhaps you and a few other friends could all chip in?

I do think it's A LOT of money but if it's an amount you can truly and comfortably afford to spend I don't see why not wanting to completely spoil someone you love on something they will really love, especially when they are going through a rough time.

Re: how much would you spend on your BFFs birthday gift?

If it were my best friend AND I could afford it (easily afford it, that is) then I would most certainly buy it. If the purchase would put any kind of financial strain on me I would either not purchase it OR try to get some other friends in on it to lesson the cost and stlll get her what she wants

I say buy it, you can always pay it off but you can't put a price tag on friendship.

Re: how much would you spend on your BFFs birthday gift?

I think it's really sweet that you want to get your friend such a nice present. My only concern is that you might actually make her uncomfortable by getting her such an extravagent gift and she might feel like she needs to reciprocate with an equally expensive gift on your birthday. Chat Icon Since she's already told you not to get it for her, I might do something slightly less expensive. To answer your other question, I spent about $250 on my BFF's last birthday - for orchestra row tickets to a B'way show.

That would be my suggestion too. Do you know anyone else who'd be willing to contribute a little?

Why don't you get a bunch of your BFF's friends together to chip in and maybe you guys can get it.

I have a friend who REALLY wanted an IMac. Her best friend sent an e-mail around to everyone who was invited to her birthday party and suggested that instead of each getting a little something, we put in whatever we want to buy the Imac. The organizer of the gift pool (the girls BFF) and the birthday girl's parents chipped in the rest.

thast the only thing, i dont want her to feel obligated to go crazy on me.

she still refuses to give me the url where she saw it, so maybe i will just try to get her one similar enough, all i know is its a viking shield pendant.

im sure i can find one similiarish for cheaper.

Keeping in mind I don't know your friend, I can say for myself I'm not a fan of getting things that are similar to yet cheaper than what I originally wanted.

I'd rather something completely different.

ordinarily i would say $50-$75 but now i spend less b/c my BFF doesn't even come close to recipricating (and she's got the $$.)

I'm not a petty person but when I'm overly generous with someone and they don't do the same in return, then i'm done.

For example, I'd buy my BFF $75 gap gift certificates, she'd buy me a $15 book. I bought her pots and pans when she moved into her apartment, she bought me a ceramic jar that says vacation money.

i ended up instead getting the silver version which was only $60
rather than the $425 gold

ill just get her a gift certificate to her tattoo guy or something to finish it off.

Re: how much would you spend on your BFFs birthday gift?

I try not to spend more than $50 on anyone. Not because I am cheap - but because I know the size of our families and that is what I can comfortably afford to spend on each person without anyone feeling like someone else got more.

BUT... if I see something spectacular that absolutely is MEANT for my friend or relative I will almost always buy it. I might say .. "this is a combo birthday/christmas/anniversary gift" if it is really expensive.. but it is rare for me to come by a gift that is perfect for someone so I don't mind going outside of my budget.

Would I spend $400 or more? MAYBE. It depends on if I have enough in savings to support that purchase. I am not giving up groceries or bouncing a check for a gift.. but if I have enough I would probably splurge.
