How much will it cost - bathroom ?
I need to redo my main bathroom. I can get someone to rip everything out and then I will need new sheet rock, 2 pedestal sinks, a toilet, tub, medicine cabinet, light fixture and hardware like tp holder, towel rack...
I will do tile on the floor and in the tub but keep the walls tile free. I will also need a smallish new window. I know someone who can install everything and lay tile. He is $250 a day.
How can this cost 10k like some people are telling me? Say 500 for tub, 400 toilet, 400 per sink, 200 window, and 500 tile. That is 2k. If installation is 1 week that's 1,250. Add in 250 for the extras and that is 3500 total. Not counting paint which I can do.
Am I missing anything, why can't I keep the cost under 5k if I shop around for deals?

I don't see why not. There are people who seem to think that $10k on a bathroom is just the norm, but you'll always pay a premium for convenience and specialty items. So just shop wisely.

Re: How much will it cost - bathroom ?
I just finished gutting my bathroom to the studs. It cost us roughly $4,500 w/ hiring someone to Sheetrock, tile, spactle and paint. We also replaced all fixtures.
It's definitely possible! Good Luck!!!

10k is why we didn't use our contractor. They can be done for a whole lot less. You sound like you are on the right track.

It all depends on the fixtures you pick. My tub was more. My toilet was 149. My tile was close to 1000. I did not do the walls other than the tub area. We did it ourselves and still spent 4k.
You can go cheap on finishes or higher end. I went middle. Also you will need cement board for the shower walls which is more expensive than drywall. Things start to add up once you get into it. Also you need shower head etc and sink faucets. That can add up.

Re: How much will it cost - bathroom ?
I think you can definitely do it close to the budget you mentioned. But it will all come down to your choices and if you need to move anything. We just redid our master bath and splurged on certain things and cut corners on others. But we still finished at well over 10k. But I also spent more then 5k on labor. We also needed a plumber and electrician and they were an additional $2500. We needed to move plumbing because we expanded the shower and used a linear drain instead of a standard center drain. And we added lighting to the room. We got a toilet for around $300, the faucets for the shower and sink were about $600, the vanity and mirror were $1400. The sink/top was $400. Our tile was a pretty big expense. We splurged and did an entire accent wall in the shower and that tile alone was almost $800 for one wall. For the sides we used a plain white subway tile from Lowes that was only about $200. The floor tiles were another $600. We used inexpensive sconces, I think they were only $40 each, but we splurged on a chandelier for $400. We needed a lip for the shower and got a granite piece cut down for $100. And glass shower doors were another $1200. We plan on redoing the main bathroom at some point and plan on doing a lot more, if not all, of the work ourselves. We will use the white subway tile. We still have some of our floor tile left, so we will probably just order enough to finish the floor. We may get a little of the expensive tile we used in our bath as a small accent. We'll get just a stock vanity. We know we can redo that bath for under $5000 because of the choices we plan to make. It will be similar in feel to our master bath, just scaled back a bit. And less then half the cost!
