How much water should I be drinking?
Is it important to drink alot of water while pregnant? If so how much should I be drinking? I hardly ever get thristy, so if I am lucky, maybe I drink 3 cups a day which I know is not that much. If I am going to drink more water, it will need to be a conscious effort!

yes it is important to stay hydrated! My doctor didn't give me a specific amount to drink just said to make sure I am drinking plenty of water. It is especially important in this heat/humidity!!

i was told ideally (which is not even close to reality) you should drink your weight in ounces. I drink probably 4 bottles a day. pre-pg i probably didn't even drink 1 bottle a day.

i'm in the same camp. it's really tough for me to drink lots of water, which i think we need at least 8 glasses a day now. so i try to sneak the liquid in in the form of juice, milk, fruit.... it's tough though.

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
I was told by my doc 2-3 liters. Since I $uck at knowing what liters are - unless it's a soda bottle - I aim for 60-80 ounces a day.
It's VERY important for at least the following reasons:
Dehydration causes muscle contractions and your uterus is a muscle, so not drinking enough water can actually cause pre-term labor!
and
You want to make sure you have a nice amount of amniotic fluid, which is helped by how much water you drink.
and
I think drinking a lot of water will also help flush the body out, so you have less of a risk of developing a UTI, which can lead to pre-term labor, or another bladder infection.
AND
staying hydrated TOTALLY helps in the constipation department, so us preggos really have to drink up!!
and
It will help your body cool down in this heat.

I would have more water in me than the ocean if this is the case!!

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
The nurse in my OB office said 6-8 glasses a day, more if you're out in the heat.
She said she's seen plenty of pregnant women admitted to the hospital for dehydration in February - you can't imagine how many are there in the summer.
Drinking fluids is SO important. You'll start feeling contractions (Braxton Hicks) if you don't drink enough. Go long enough like that, and real labor could start - something you don't want to play with if you're less than 38 weeks.
It doesn't have to be just water though - iced tea, Sprite, lemonade, juice, decaf coffee... they all count towards your 6-8 glasses a day. Heck, think how much water is in a typical piece of fruit like an orange. You're probably getting more water than you know. Just try to up it a little.

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
I have a 32 oz. water bottle that I drink at least 3 times a day...so at least 96 oz. On a day I go to the gym I drink at least 4 of them so 128 oz. I know this probably seems like a lot, BUT i was a big water drinker before.

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
my doctor said 1 gallon a day ideally, but she recognized that is a touch challenge. But I aim for as much as possible.

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
3 cups isnt enough. you;re supposed to drink a ton, lika a gallon i was told by my high risk dr.
take it from someone who hardly drank any...do your best to drink more. my amniotic fluid level was 1.7 and low is anything under 5.0. it sent me into the hospital early to be iinduced and also caused me a lot of all around belly pain the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy.

i totally agree with this! although i have never been hospitalized i have noticed a few occassions i got very light pains in my stomach. I automatically grab my water bottle and gulp it down and within 10 minutes the feeling is gone.

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
I drink 3-4 refillable water bottles a day. They hold 24 ounces each. I like it ICE COLD! Otherwise I don't like drinking straight water.
With DD I was PG during the winter and remember drinking all kinds of other stuff to compensate, because I am really not into drinking water in the winter.

Re: How much water should I be drinking?
My doc told me as close to as a gallon of water a day. The NP at the dr's office told me to try and drink at least 8oz every hour.
