How much should we ask for?

A family member gave us a Queen size mattress and boxspring. It's about 3-4 yrs. old. It's some kind of Sealy Posturepedic, Ultra Plush. The mattress is in excellent shape, nothing on it at all. The thing is that the boxspring is fine except the sides of it look dirty? I'm thinking it's from them moving it. We've only had it a short time. They gave it to us because they got a King mattress and our Queen bed is REALLY old and worn out. But we're not keeping it because we tried to sleep on it and I HATE it. It's too soft for me. I wish we had the room for it, but the guest bedroom is becoming the baby's room. I want to post it on cragslist but I wasn't sure how much to ask for it. Would $200 be too much? I believe it's a $1,400 set. Thanks!

Re: How much should we ask for?

I think $200 is good- you want to price it to move

I realized how much I under priced my sisters piano when I had a woman email me 15 minutes after I posted it- and it paying more to ship it to her then she is paying me- but it's gone and that was the whole point

Re: How much should we ask for?

I posted a full on Craig's list for $100. It sold fast. It was old, but in good shape.

$200 should be good. You will got a lot of responses.

Some advice, don't sell just the mattress or boxspring. If someone wants one or the other tell them that no matter what it's $200 and they can do whatever they want with the piece they don't want. This way you don't have to get rid of the other part they don't want.

Re: How much should we ask for?

Thanks everyone!

How should I word the post? Do I say that the boxspring looks dirty on the sides? I know that sounds stupid so that's why I'm asking. Thanks!

Re: How much should we ask for?

I got at least 30 responses to my ad on Craig's list. The people that eventually bought it were using it as a guest roon bed. They didn't need the boxspring so I just put it at the curb. They paid me the full amt though.

I would just post pics of the mattress and boxspring and of someone asks about the condition, say the boxspring sides got dirty in moving it.

Re: How much should we ask for?

We personally HATE used mattresses, but my mom was trying to do us a favor since my dog dug a whole in the one we have on one side and we can't afford to buy a new one right now she thought we could use it. I REALLY, REALLY can't stand the thought of it, just thinking what people did on it, but I was just trying to make my mom feel better about helping. We only slept on it for 2 nights with our own sheets and I hated it. It's definitely a mattress that would be great for a guest bedroom, but since our guest bedroom is going to be the baby's room we don't have the room for it. I am still going to buy a new one for ourselves. It's too hard to get past the "what did they do in the bed" thing. I'm not offended though!!! Chat Icon
