How much is daycare?

I'm starting to think about the pros and cons of returning to work after my leave. The problem is I have NO idea how much day care costs for a baby. Can someone tell me how much you pay?

Re: How much is daycare?

I'm not paying anything yet, but the average I've seen so far for 5 full days at a center is between $1150-$1350.

Re: How much is daycare?

Even out here in Colorado it's not cheap - a little over $1000 a month.

mine too...

If I did not have her to watch the baby, mine would be 600/month through my job - they have subsidized day care

Just think... I have TWO!! No discount is given.

That is why most twin mommies quit their jobs for a while.
Unless you make a certain salary... higher than the average/many women it "doesn't pay" to work.

I can take an extended leave but it doesn't pay for me to quit at my salary with my pension and better benefits than my DH.

Re: How much is daycare?

The places I've looked at range from $1065/month to $1485/month. That's for 5 days a week and for infants. The cheapest place does not include formula, food when the baby gets older, etc. The more expensive places usually do include meals. Some daycare centers will offer you a 10 percent discount if you have more than one child that attends. Some centers will also give you the option of keeping your child there 2 or 3 days a week, which will also be cheaper. And, as your child gets older, the cost of daycare should go down.

Genetically, I have a good chance of having twins someday - we thought for sure that this pregnancy was twins with the horrible ms I had until we only saw one baby.... After I saw the daycare prices, I was relieved - there was no way we would have been able to afford daycare for 2 babies at this point.... in fact, even though I'm 33, and DH is almost 43, we may have to wait quite a while before having another baby because we won't be able to afford all that daycare - even with the price going down for a preschooler and reduced price for a 2nd child....

That is why I thank god for family every day. Mine would of cost $35,000 a year to put both of them in daycare. Chat Icon

Re: How much is daycare?

I pay $150/week for a home based daycare. The owner treats it like a school and they have a a schedule that they go buy. They have 2 teachers who are there all day and another PT person who helps out for a couple of hours.

Re: How much is daycare?

I pay 1365 a month for five days a week, 8 hours a day. I supply all the food, milk, and diapers (wipes too!)

I do love it though, she has SOOOO much fun. She will move up out of "infant" care at 2...and they will supply b-fast and lunch and the price goes down!
