How much does your taxes go up if....
you add an extention or dormer your house!?!?!
My DH wants to look at capes...which I am not a big fan, bec I like all my bedrooms upstairs (we currently live in a colonial)
But I want to know how much this will add to our taxes...bec we made the *mistake of buying a gorgeous new construction, but our taxes weren't known bec it kept getting reassessed...and now we are paying almost 15K for a house on a 50 x 100 plot!
SOOOO we are looking to move just so we don't have to pay so much in taxes....but I don't want to have dey-ja-vu and have our taxes go up and up and up to the 15K range if we one day decide to expand...otherwise we might as well just stay where we are KWIM!?!?!

You can call the assesors office. Then can give you an idea if you have the dimensions.

Just reread your post... there are alot of variables to it since you dont know the house, etc... I think you would have to have those details before they could tell you.

The best thing to do would be to find a house in your area that is dormered and in the same SD and see how much they are paying in taxes.
Find a few houses and compare. You will probably pay what your neighbors with similar sized houses (and similiar ametiities like number of bathrooms) pay.

Huge number of variables. The town, how much it raises the value of the house, how much square footage it is, whether it's going up (adding 2nd floor), or going out, what's in the addition (kitchens and baths versus bedrooms).

we had a cape transformed to colonial
4 bedrooms, with a back extension as well.
Taxes were about 7500 when we bought, they went up to 12k after the reno
and have gone up about 2k a year since then
Since our house is bigger, every year when there is an increase our increase is alot more
Our taxes are 16k with the star
they are 17,500 without star
and if they keep going up 2k a year like they have been in a few years they will be way over 20k
60x100 plot
Our issue isn't paying the taxes we always knew this was going to happen, but its resale, even though we have no plans in moving one day we will probably move and who is gonna wanna buy this house with these insane taxes
they probably will be 30k when we move when we retire one day.
