How much do you tip your super?
If you live in a co-op/condo/apt bldg, how much do you tip your super and his assistant? We've never had a problem that they've helped us with and I can count on one hand how many times I've seen them in the almost year we've been here... I want to do the right thing...

You read my mind. Great question. I keep reading $50, but we don't exactly LOVE him, kwim.  It may sound cheap, but I'm thinking $25 each.

personally...i have no need for him and most of the time, i see him doing nothing.
His bonus (tip) should come from the management company as with the dues we pay, i'm sure its budgeted more then what goes back into the development.
In my co-op, his lives in a sponsored home in the complex which he doesn't pay for and I for one know how much he gets paid and i think he is taken care of...
each complex may vary

Oh, you are right on that! DH found out how much ours makes and it's more than I make, plus no rent.

I can't remember what we did. We tipped the super, his assistant & our porter. I wonder if the management company doesn't give bonuses because they assume the receive tips.
Thye do a lot in our complex (it's big) that benefits all of us (snow removal, pool up keep, cleaning out the storage areas, coordintating the boiler repair, etc) even if they arne't in my actual apartment, so I like to tip. There is also a handyman, but I didn't tip him last year, b/c I had never met him.

Last year we gave our super $150 and the porter $100. This year we may give the super $100 and the porter $75

Our super is consider part-time. Basically he lives across the street where he is the full-time super. But, we see ours almost everyday and he always has been there for us in a pinch. So with that said, we are tipping our super $60.00. We feel comfortable with that amount and know it is a good way for him to know we appreciate the work to our home and builiding.

We tip $ 100
He hangs stuff for us, fixes things when we need it & he's great. He's live in and keeps the building really clean.
If he didn't do so much for us, I would gve him less I'm sure. You def. have to give him what you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the feedback... I don't want to be cheap.... I'm making cookies now for colleagues, etc., and am planning on leaving a batch for him and the porter...still debating what to put in the card....
