How much do you spend in total on holiday gifts

With the economy the way it is, I was thinking how much we are going to spend on holiday presents. I think we are cutting down a little bit this year.

My DH spends a lot on me every year. I tell him not to but he refuses to listen.
I spend quite a bit on him but not nearly as much.
We don't have many kids in the family- and we don't buy for anyone other than immediate family and kids but regardless it adds up.

I can easily spend over $1000 on my DH, and the same amount for everyone else combined... I have a big family!

DH and I don't really exchange gifts with each other. We spend about $1,000 on everyone else.

Total is about $1000 but about half of that is just DH.

Depends on our bonuses but it is usually about $1,000.

As a couple we usually spend about $1500

We try to cut back but it never works out. Just between DH and my 2 SK's, we spend well over $1,000 and we have big families on top of that. It's insanity.

around a thousand. we're tryign to 1/2 that cost this year

i keep a spreadsheet of the amounts i spend to keep it in perspective--it probably is around 900 or so...

but i have to buy for:
7 nieces & nephews
2 brothers and 2 sisters, 1 SIL
DH's 6 younger brothers and sisters
his parents
my parents
DH
and a few friends and their kids.

we have:
16 nieces and nephews
both sets of parents
we do a secret santawith our families but still that's 4 people (one for each of us on both sides)
and we also do another secret santa with his cousins so that's another two people
I fell like we always end up spending over $2000
what are we doing wrong

holy crap--16 nieces and nephews. when DH's siblings start getting older enough to have kids--i'm gonna be screwed.

my secret--i start shopping around end of october for "Fall Clearance" items. Old Navy.com has been a MAJOR savings the past 2 years. I bought 12 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans for the kiddies for only $89 in October!! Plus I do black friday shopping....you'd be shocked at how inexpensive kids clothes are at target on black friday.

i might have undersestimated the gifts i gave DH last year--so maybe its closer to $1k -- but regardless I am a frugal shopper! Yeah it might not be designer brands and stuff...but ya know what? i do what i can for them.
