How much do you spend??
I completely understand if people do not want to answer this question -- but DH and I are renting now and do want to have more kids eventually and can't imagine doing it in an apartment when there are more then one.
I don't know if owning a house is within our range though. So I'm wondering what you all spend monthly on mortgage/water/elect/etc.

I can't really answer the utilities question because I'm not in the house yet, but our mortgage with taxes is going to be about $2700 a month.

Our mortgage is about 2,700; water is cheap only around 20 every 3 months; heat is about 300 a month; electric is 100.
We didn't think we could do it either, somehow the bills get paid.

Our mortgage is $2,500 including taxes. We just got a keyspan and LIPA bill yesterday - $200 for keyspan for a month and $200 for LIPA for two months. We pay water and sewers and that's about $30 every bill. I haven't figured out how regular those bills are as they seem very sporadic.
Don't forget to factor in insurance, phones and cable. We spend about another $300 a month on those combined.

Our taxes are high though but we'll be knocking off about $100/mo once STAR kicks in.

our 2 mortgages combined is $2925 (that includes taxes & insurance)
electric is about $120/month
oil $245/month
water- (been in the house since aug,still havent gotten a bill)
cablevision-phone,cable,internet $130/month
cellphones -about $95/month for 2 phones
insurance- 285/month
gas for our cars- about 300/month
then theres food, credit cards, etc.
 woh....thats crazy... its scary to see all the numbers in front of you!

Our mortgage is $2200/month and I would say we spend at least another $500 (that's a rough estimate) on gas, electric, garbage collection, water, etc.
We are in central NJ.

not sure where you are or how often they bill, but I think you should have gotten a bill by now.
Check with the Water dept to make sure they have your info as new owners, I remember when we moved in I noticed on my 1st tax bill receipt a water lien and called to asked what it was about. Well long story short they did not have our correct info at the water dept so when the bill went unpaid it got tacked onto our local tax bill.
Could be happening to you too! HTH

Our mortgage is 2037.00 a month, water is every 2 months at about 70.00, electric is about 150.00 depending on the time of year every 2 months, oil we had locked in at 2.46 for the season, phone about 150.00 with 2 lines and 2 cell phones, cable is 88.00 a month, and then there are student loans, car insurance, homeoowners insurance,etc. HTH

This happened to me too when I moved into my house. They didn't attach it to my taxes, but they showed up at my house to turn off the water. Thank God DH was home and paid them. They had the wrong town on our info and were sending the bills to the wrong place. When I called to complain about the late fees, $ pickup fee, etc. They basically said that they don't take off fees and if I want to make a complaint I could send it to such and such... I knew that would get me nowhere so I didn't pursue it, but I should have. I KNOW I gave them the right info when I switched it into my name but they messed up. It seems to be a common occurrence. I suggest you check it out.
BTW - I also hadn't gotten a LIPA or Keyspan bill since I moved in Aug. Just got it -- WHOA!!! I'll have to be asking for consideration in spreading out the back bill for them. I also changed them into my name in Aug and never got a bill until last week -- after receiving a letter telling me that it was never changed into our names.

This happened to us - then one day we came home to a notice that our water had been turned off! Turned out that somehow the water was still in the former owner's name, and the bill was probably getting forwarded, so we never saw it. Definitely call and ask for a bill!
