How much do movers cost?
We don't have that much furniture - a bedroom set, a loveseat, chair, and ottoman. We would be going from Queens to central suffolk county. Oh we are in a walk up - but only on the second floor. Anyone have any idea how much this could cost?

The company I used had a 4 hour minimum. I used 4 men and that was 144 per hour plus a fuel surcharge.... HTH.

the generally charge by the hour with a 6 hour minium
I paid about $1300 to move alot of stuff from long beach to bayside
I used moveco- reccomend by someone on here- I had no issues with them- they were great, funny and kept me calm the whole day!

6 hr min is probably way too much for us... we don't have that much stuff to load/unload.

Try Leonetti Bros. in Oceanside. the only have a 4 hour minimum so you will only pay around 600. And they are awesome - we used them 3 times this year (dont ask) and each time we loved everyone they sent us!

we are actually going to rent a Uhaul and have my DH, Almost BIL, my brother & my DH's friend move the stuff being its only going to be about 15 minutes away.

Yeah Kerry, I just looked at Uhaul's website and for the amount of stuff we have it would be around $150 to rent a truck. I think we'll probably do that and get some friends to help us move. We have so few things I don't think its worth it to hire a mover for $800-$1000+

Weird - one of our "moves" they let me have them for 4 hours. We only needed them for 2.5 so it kind of s*cked - but i know we only paid for 4 hours. Maybe because we were also using them for the two other moves.

Its the cheapest way. I know by that time we will be so tight on cash. At least having 4 guys help us and I would drive the fragile stuff in my car (china, computer, etc) we could get it done in a day. Plus, I just would buy a case of beer and these guys would be so happy!

When we used friends in the past I actually think the guys enjoyed it. It gives them a chance to show off their manliness lifting all that heavy furniture. I think they also like to drive the truck.
