How much do accountants normally charge?
DH and I went to have our taxes done by an accountant this week, after having our taxes butchered by friends and family. She charged us $125 each. Is this alot? I am trying to get a feel for what is a fair price. I should also state that our taxes are pretty straight forward- the hardest part was inputting all of our W2s since we both worked more than one job.

Ours charges $100 for both of us.
ETA: She's upstate, which could be the reason it's cheaper?...not sure.

We paid $300 for ours, but we had two states and federal, plus my 1099 income, capital gains, marriage, house purchase, and grossing up because of our move and bonus. We tried to see what we would get using turbo tax and our accountant doubled our return, so for us it was $300 well spent.

$120 for both DH and I for state and federal.
My DH's friend did his taxes for him alone a few years ago and charged him $300. Needless to say, that was the last time he used him (that was in addition to my uncomfortableness of a good friend knowing our business).

I depends upon how complicated your situation is and how many additional forms they may have to use. For example, a person with no house and just a savings account usually can use a 1040EZ form. Once you own property, stocks, etc. it can get complicated.
I've seen a range from $100-300 depending upon how complicated the situation.
ETA: Our acccountant is definitely not on the cheap side but it's money well spent because we always get money back even with capital gains, etc.
