How much below asking price do you bid?

I'm new to this and we aren't ready to bid yet but how much is below is normal? I found a house I like for 339K do we bid $319 and go up from there just wondering what's considered not insulting to the home buyer.

There is no standard. It depends on what you think the house is worth. Your agent should be able to go over comps with you and then it comes down to what you personally would pay for it

house was listed at 995,000. We bid 920 and ended up at 965.

965 was the number we thought we would end up at.

We would have adjusted our bid *IF* the comps in the area called for it.

Asked 300k, then 285k. we bid 255k & wound up with 270k...right in the middle.

hard to say without comps.

If the house is "worth" 400K and they list for 375K - you might want to offer full amount. If they list for 450K you might want to go 75K under

too many variables. get an account for listing book and go to area sales and look to see what other similar houses have sold for.

Our house was listed at 545k. We offered 495 which they laughed at...we went up to 505, which they still didn't take and then we settled on 525k. Then there were issues with missing CO's, etc so we ended up taking another 10k off and settled at 515k.
