how much are yoru test strips?

for 100 strips i pay around 110 bucks and that last me only 3 weeks or so. i have to test 4 times a day. my insurance doesnt cover them...anyone else have this issue and what do you do to save money? ty

I have heard that a lot of test strips are not covered by insurance.

I am going through somewhat the same thing, because I passed my 3-hour but I want to test my BS every day anyway. My doc is calling in strips for me and we'll see if insurance covers them!

I was talking to a grandma that I know from the Mommy & Me class I take the girl I babysit for, and she has diabetes for years. She said that if insurance doesnt cover them, to call the company that makes the meter. She said that sometimes they will send you some strips for free. She has done this in the past.

Also people sell slightly expired test strips on ebay for cheaper then the cost of new ones. Now, the whole thing sucks royally bc it is crazy to still spend a lot of money on expired test strips. That being said --- most strips (according to what I read online) are good for about 3-6 months after they expire so it is OK to use expired strips. I was using strips that expired 3 years ago for the past 2 weeks before I took my 1-hour and 3-hour tests, and my numbers were right in line with what my 1hour and 3 hour tests gave me.

What meter do you have? My section is on 12/27 however I just had to my refill script because I have no more strips so I should have extras. I pay $30 for 100 strips.

Yes, it also may have to do with what meter you have. I just had my OB call in strips for my old meter even though I don't have GD this pregnancy and my insurance covers the contour strips in full but not freestyle, which is the meter that I have!

You may have to buy a new meter and then have your doc write the prescription for THOSE strips---if they are covered.

Go on your insurance company's website to find out what strips/meters will be covered! Maybe your doc should have prescribed you a different one!

Definitely contact your insurance company and see which strips they will cover.

Mine covers One Touch Ultra with just a $25 co-pay. I was using a different meter so I went online and looked up One Touch - they were able to send me a free meter.

Just started with testing last Friday. My OB gave me a Rx for the Accu-Chek Aviva monitor, packs of 100 test strips and the lancets. The monitor wasn't covered by insurance, but that was only $19.99 and came with a $15 rebate to fill out! So I mailed that in already!

The box of 100 test strips and the 100 lancets cost me $5 each. Insurance did cover them in my case. I believe my OB looked into my insurance first before deciding what monitoring system he wanted me to use.

girls...thank you... i called my insrance company and there is a mail order that covers the strips..this will save me about 500 bucks in the next months.... didnt even think about it before! ty!!!
