How many of each do I really need?

I had my shower yesterday...and it was awesome. We got everything from our registry plus...so much more. It was overwhelming!

My question is how many of each thing do I really need such as...

receiving blankets-

infant towels-

3 month clothes (like onezie type)

6 months

9 months

layettes

bibs

anything I am forgetting?? lol

We got SO many of the above and I am trying to figure out how many of each the baby will need and what he will outgrow quickly and stuff. TY Chat Icon

Re: How many of each do I really need?

ive been using about 10 light blankets since its summer, and i have about 5-7 heavier ones for the winter.

i use 3 hooded towels a week, 2 more wouldn't hurt but its not necessary by any means. also about 7 wash clothes.

at 3 monthes i dont use bibs that often yet. prob when shes teething i'll use them more. i maybe use 3-4 a week, and only when im feeding with a new outfit or about to go out. my DD doesn't drool or spit up that much so i don't find i need a bib that often yet.

clothes are harder based on how big your baby is. for me, my 3m old was a preemie and she doesn't even really fit into 0-3 yet!! so i have a ton of newborn and 0-3 clothes. the newborn stuff has lasted about 2 months, so i need a full supply of 0-3. also depending on when your baby is due you will want more onesies and stuff to layer in the colder months. since its summer i go through maybe 10 onesies a week. if i was layering it might be more. i also absolutely love the sleep n plays or feety PJs. even though its summer DD sleeps best in these.

sorry for the long answer but to be honest, its fun to have a lot of different outfits for them. i think bare minimum make sure you have enough for 10-12 days, assuming you do laundry once a week. that way you have some extra for the days that they poop/pee/spit up everywhere.

Re: How many of each do I really need?

receiving blankets- i would say no more than 3-5. We hardly used them, except in the beginning to swaddle when he was a newborn.

infant towels- 5 at most. They grow out of them quickly btw.

Clothes- it depends. My son grew slowly so he was able to use clothes for a while. Even now, he's 3 and he still fits in 24 month clothes.

As for pj's... we had and used a lot of those. We had maybe 7 in each size. Changing in the middle of the night with a penis... lots of accidents. Chat Icon

bibs- we never used them. My son never spit up and wasn't a messy eater. But i would say no more than 7-10. Again the small bibs they grow out of quickly. So it depends on the size of bibs you have.

We had a ton of receiving blankets...but I think 5 is enough.

I thought 3 infant towels were enough.

Clothing ....depends on size of baby. Both of my kids were 10+ pounds (average 3 month old)... so I had maybe[\I] 2 weeks of 0-3...bb didn't fit at all.

Bibs come in hand when bottle feeding and starting solids.

Re: How many of each do I really need?

i have more receiving blankets than I really need. but they are good to use in the car for a light blanket or just to go out with. i keep one in the diaper bag too. they are also good for dr appts for when you strip them down and are waiting for the dr to come into the room. i don't even swaddle her with them, i just use em as light blankets. i'd say 5 or so are good. she has spit up on them and stuff... so you def want a few of them.

wash cloths and towels... i'd keep all washcloths. you can find uses for them. we use one for each bath and then a new one with the next bath. i give her a bath every other night so that's 4 or so a week. you should be good with 10 of them i'd guess. towels, I have 2 that I really like and then about 3 or 4 other ones. I don't think you need more than that at all.

I know you didn't mention this, but one thing I wish I had more of was pajamas and sleep sacs. I run out of pj's and only have one sleep sac in a size small. so now she has the medium one on and it's gigantic on her. so i'd def want 2 or 3 sleep sacs. and enough pj's to get me through at least 1 week (that's wearing a different pj each night so at least 7 pj's). I like the pj's with or without feet. the ones without seem to last a little longer than the footsie ones... I'll just use socks with them.

bibs - we don't use too much of yet. we have a TON too. and so many cute ones. sometimes we use them as a burp cloth! haha! but on occasion we will use a bib. i think this will be much more necessary once foods start so i'm not sure how to answer this part just yet since we aren't there yet.

you DEF want to keep all burp cloths!! I actually keep them stashed around the house.. some in the living room, some in her room, some in the linen closet, some in my bedroom, some in the diaper bags, etc. you never know when you need one immediately. sometimes spit up comes out of nowhere and even a few hours after they last ate too!!! so i'd say you can never have enough burp cloths!!

i honestly didn't return anything i got. i figure at some point i'll probably use it all. i guess if i had to return some things... maybe some of the receiving blankets and some of the bibs. but it wasn't that big of a deal to have extra of them to me.

Re: How many of each do I really need?

clothes:
i didn't buy a lot of newborn clothes, thinking she was going to be gigantic bc of the GD. well she's long and skinny so she wore nb until literally a week ago or so. I ended having to run and get nb pj's and stuff for her to wear. we had nb onsies, but no cute clothes and no pj's for her really. she can still wear some nb pj's and onsies even now and she's 6.5 weeks old.

0-3 months she's just starting to wear. the sizes run so that she should be able to wear them until she's 3 months old. 6 month clothes she should be able to wear up to 6 months. I only mention this bc I didn't know that... I thought they started to wear 6 months when they were 6 months.

it's hard to guess what size they will be during which season because they do grow at all different rates and are all different sizes. but i'd def make sure to have a good amount of 0-3 month, 6 month and 9 month, etc. enough to at least get you through the week or 2 weeks. there can be some outfit changes during the day due to messes they make with their mouth or butt or pee so keep that in consideration as well. then some outfits don't wear as well wash after wash... and also different brands run differently... so it all gets crazy confusing after a while.
I kept all the clothes in the dresser drawers and i just put whatever fits her on.. i don't even always look at the tags to see the size... if it looks like it will fit I give it a whirl.

onsie's are good bc they stretch so they can wear them slightly large or slightly small i've found.

idk if this all helps or not. haha. i might be babbling!
