How many c-sections have you had?

Just curious.

I heard terrible things about my 1st obgyn who delivered DD (after the fact and I actually almost ending up suing them for malpractice but thats a whole nother story). I am now with Dr Pillitteri for this pregnany. But during a sono at my preinatoligist the tech told me that I have a ton of scar tissue from my 1st section (with horrible Dr) I want to have at least 1 more baby afterChat Icon , maybe even 2 more but I am worried that I won't be able to.

Would you try for a VBAC?

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

I have had 1 c-section and about to have anotehr any day now but I have very little scar tissue. Is there anyway to reduce the amount of scar tissue if you have another c-section, like maybe take some out? Maybe a dumb question though, sounds like that doc did a crappy job stitching you up.

Talk to dr. p at your next appointment. I'm pretty sure he will take out all the scar tissue he can and make it much easier for you to have another baby if you choose.

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

I've only had one and will have a second one in Oct. I know with DS#1 my doc really wanted to avoid a c/s but asked me if he had to how many children I was planning on having. He said hopefully no more than 3. So I'm guessing he only felt comfortabl doing three.

I would XP on parenting you might get some more answers over there.

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

I've had three c-sections. Two were with one practice and the last was elsewhere. Maybe you did have a bad doctor, but most likely the doctor has nothing to do with the scar tissue...that's your body, plus more c-sections=more scarring.

Right before my last surgery, my doctor warned me that because I'd already had two sections, adhesions were likely (scar tissue attatching to adjacent organs) and that the surgery would likely take longer in order to clear it away. She was right on the money...at least fifteen minutes was spent doing that before the baby was even born. And then the sewing up, etc. took longer because of all that. My doctor did advise me during the surgery that #3 should probably be my last (but the wife of a doctor in that practice had FOUR c-sections). I have heard of doctors saying that after the third c-section, but I've never heard of anyone being told that after the second. I guess you will really not know until you get there, but I wouldn't worry too much about it all right now...

Good luck!

This will be my 3rd c-section! My dr never said anything to me yet about my scar tissue, he did tell me everything went great with my other 2 c's so I'm hoping this one will be a breeze too!

I'm 2 weeks away from my third. Like PP, OB has not said anything to me about scar tissue.

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

I have had 2 c-sections. While doing my 2nd (different dr that time) they kept commenting that I had a alot of scar tissue and they would be ok with me not having any other children.

I talked to the NP in the OB's office afterwards and asked her what it meant. She basically told me that it's not harmful for me, but it makes the surgery aspect more difficult, which is why the dr said it. She said if there was a 3rd c-section I would have even more scar tissue and it would make the surgery more difficult.

I've had 2 c-sections, the doctor didn't mention anything about scar tissue during the second. Actually, the whole thing was really quick, I was in and out of the OR in like half an hour.

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

I've only had 1 so far, i'm pregnant and will be having another with baby # 2. VBAC isn't an option for me because my incision tore and the risk of rupture is high. I actually had to wait 2 yrs to get pregnant with baby # 2.

Since I was so upset about the c-section I really questioned what it meant regarding future babies. With multiple c-sections the risk of the placenta implanting deeper into your uterus wall goes up with each section. There's not so big of a difference with baby 1 and baby 2. I believe it was under 5% chance. At 3 it went up to a bit more, I *think it was something like 20ish percent. And it goes up from there. The placenta can go thru the wall and attach to an organ if it's bad enough. So the main concern is detaching the placenta, if it's deep, the risk of hemmoraging is high and can result in a hysterectomy.

They kind of scared the crap out of me. Not sure if it makes a difference how long you wait in between sections. HTH!

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

Usually scar tissue doesn't have much to do with the surgeon, it's your body. If you're going to form adhesions, then it's going to happen.
Adhesions can attatch to organs, blood vessels, making surgery more difficult and increase risk of bleeding and other complications.
I worked in L&D for a while and when we had repeat 3s and 4s the MDs required the most experienced assistant just incase of an emergency.
With that being said, if it were me who needed c sections, I would still aim for 3/4 kids. Its do-able and done everyday.
Good luck!

Re: How many c-sections have you had?

I had one and have a lot of scar tissue . It doesn't really matter how good or how bad your dr is/was when it comes to scar tissue, it's your body, everyone heals differently and some women develop more scar tissue than others. I asked my OBGYN on my last visit and she said this time it's nothing to worry about, they'll just take it all out if I have another one. But most likely I will develop more scar tissue , most women do.
One thing OBGYNs agree is that you wait at least 2 years between C sections.
