How long should I wait to call the detective to follow up on our robbery?

Many of you may remember that our condo was robbed almost a month ago. Well, a few of the things were returned but we brought them to the police for fingerprinting and since the robbers also committed check fraud (they used my checking account number to do a check by phone), the items have to stay with the police as evidence until the case is over.

How long do these things take? How long should I wait to follow up with the detective? I don't want to be a nag but they have my stuff and I really miss it. I want my camera back. It may be insignificant, but there have been a few occasions when I wish I had it to take some pictures of things.

Any advice would be appreciated. Like I said, I don't want to nag the detective, but I don't know if I am looking at 3 months or a year before this will be resolved. I am getting antsy.

I would call and ask. Tell them exactly what you said here, you don't mean to take up more of their time but you've never dealt with this before and have no idea what the timeline is. I can't imagine you'd be the first person to call and ask that. I'm sure that if you said it nicely they wouldn't mind.

I think I will give it until Friday when it will be exactly one month. I am almost nervous to call.

NoChat Icon But people say that they were probably advised not to say anything until after it has been resolved. They don't want to get into bigger trouble. They also don't know the mental state of me or my husband. Who is to say that we won't hit the parents or the kid if they approach us? We are not violent but they don't know us.

Anyone else have experience with something like this? Anyone know how long these things take?

I am so tempted to go out and buy a new camera.
