Re: How long does a dormer project usually take?

Between 1 day and 10 years, give or take....

What kind of dormer? How big? Will the entire roof be replaced? Are you adding an entire 2nd story, or just adding a dog-house to the roof-line? Can the 1st floor and foundation handle the load, or will that need to be strengthened? Are you counting the time it takes to get permits? Are you counting just the shell, or insulation, sheetrock, paint, etc?

Roughly around 6 months. Longer if you need a variance.

We are rear-dormered now but it wasn't done the way it should have been (not to the fullest extent by the previous owners). Depending on numbers, we may consider just redoing it all - I really would like it all done at once so we don't have to do another big project like this down the road.

thats the boat we are in Chat Icon Chat Icon when we first dormered I just went across the top & stopped @ the garage. IDK why i did that , LOL . Now we are going over the garage & back as well. The dormer we are doing now is smaller that what we first did , on the outside , but the inside we are doing more work. Id still figure in 2 months till its at least liveable Chat Icon

Re: How long does a dormer project usually take?

Our dormer was started just after Thanksgiving and was finished the end of March so it took 4 months. We already had the permit when they started. Had some delays at Christmas because TOI wasn't doing inspections, another delay and they also required some structural support to the beams in the basement so that work added another 2 weeks, and the side strapping added a few more days. We also had some extensive tilework done in the bathroom so add more time for that.
