How Long Did It Take You?
I'd like to get an idea of when DH should start the house search process. We'll probably renew our lease for another year and then hopefully buy next spring/summer in CT. I'm curious how long it took from the time you seriously started looking at houses until you could move into your new house. Thanks.

We started looking in May of '04 and took a break from 9/04 (we got married) until we started looking seriously on 1/8/05...and are still, currently, looking.

We started looking seriously in Dec 04. We looked at 35ish houses in about 6 weeks and found 1 we loved. Put in the offer end of Jan 05 and closed May 10, 2005.

started in 1/03 looked pretty aggresively till Feb 04 when we found our house. We closed in may04 & moved in july 04.

We semi seriously looked in April 05 and then took a break until August 05 for finals and the bar exam. We seriously looked for the months of August and September (minus our 2 week HM). There were so few homes on the market for any length of time where we are that we were able to see all of them. We bid on what is now our home September 27th and closed on October 28th.

we started looking fall of 04 in the hopes of snagging something off season. we placed a bid but the seller only bit a little and in the end was unwilling to compromise.
we continued looking into the winter (pretty dead) into the spring when we finally landed something. keep in mind inventory and prices generally go up in the spring. if i were you i would go by our same timeline to get an idea of what is available and what the process entails so when the time comes you'll feel more comfortable jumping on something!

We started looking in Nov '04, put an offer in mid Jan '05 and closed on Feb 14th 2005. We got the keys to the house at closing.

Started looking 6/04, found our house 1 year later.
Closed on 9/22/05 and moved in 10/15/05.

we started serious looking (every weekend and some weekdays) back in August, and we just closed on our house in December... it felt like a life time... we were so tired but I was determined to find OUR house

we started looking in June 1998. On and off though, not real serious. We went to contract on a condo in Long Beach in Sept. 1998, and then the seller backed out last minute. We re-evaluated what we wanted after that, and found our house in June 2000. Closed October 2, 2000.

We went to the first open house in our town in March. We put the bid in for house on October 17 and the offer was accepted on October 18. Prior to March, we had looked at different areas to determine where we thought we wanted to live. DH was working in a different office at the time as well so we weren't really sure where we were going to live due tothe commute.
We actually put a bid in on the first house we went to see at an open house  Of course we realize that it was meant to be that we didn't get it since it wasn't "our" house. I still love it and think about it as I plan to decorate but our house now is SOOOO much better!

4 or 5 months but we saw at least 150 houses. I went out twice a week with our agent and some days it was 8 hr days and then on the days when she didnt take me out we went open house hunting. I would right down all the addresses from the paper and them mapquest one to the next one. We ended up finding two houses on the same day and had to choose which one we liked better.
In that time we put two different offers on two different houses one was accepted and we were going to contract and the owners backed out the day before and decided not to move.
In the back of our minds we know what we wanted but didnt know what it was until we saw the house we got.

Started casually looking Feb/March 04, seriously looking May 04, Found out house end of Aug 04, Contracts signed mid Sept 04, closing Nov 1st 04.

two years...we were in a lower price range at first, then looked in other states, saved more $$$ - looked in other towns - then the perfect house fell into our laps!!!!
