How long between closing and....

Actually moving in?

Just trying to get an idea. We are planning on painting first and gradually moving things in so we don't have to go nuts in one weekend.

We are shooting for closing first week in Oct and Oct being the last month in our Apt.

Re: How long between closing and....

We are planning on closing by the end of Sept/beginning of October and hoping to be in by the beginning of December, but we have a lot of work to do on the house before we can move in.

Re: How long between closing and....

We closed July 12 and still aren't in. We have a lot of remodeling to do first, otherwise we probably would have moved in already. You could probably be in the house in about a month if you time it all right. You could just paint the most important rooms first, move your stuff in and then paint the other rooms while living there. GL! Chat Icon

We closed in late June and moved in mid-August. We did some painting (well, DH did) and had the floors refinished before we moved in, though we still have some painting to do.

Re: How long between closing and....

We had a unique situation in that we were living in the house next door...so when we closed (6/13), demo started on our bathroom that week and we slowly moved things in and painted a couple of rooms over the following 2 weeks. We were all moved in by that time (7/3 - 3 weeks after closing).

ETA: We have been doing additional remodeling while living there (the past 1+ year).

Re: How long between closing and....

I think that really depends on what you want to do to the house. If it's just some painting and cleaning, you could be moved in in a week or two.

For us, it's going to depend on what we can afford to do. It'll either be one month or 6 months until we move in since we'd like to try and dormer the house before we move in.

Thank you Ladies!

We really only have to paint and re-do the driveway before we move in, so if all goes well, we can be in within a week or 2 of closing.

Re: How long between closing and....

We closed on 7/30 and moved in on 8/21. That was just enough time to paint three bedrooms, livingroom, kitchen, dining room, office and 2 bathrooms. We also redid the kitchen floor.

Dh and I both work full time but he was able to take time off during those three weeks to get the work done.

It depends on how much you want to do and how much time you can devote to doing it.

We cut it close. We wanted to paint the basement and another bedroom but there just wasn't enough time.

ETS: We also re-caulked the kitchen and bathrooms and DH and I did the work ourselves.

Re: How long between closing and....

It really depends on how much time you have to dedicate to the work that needs to be done and the extent of work that needs to be done.

We're hopefully closing within the next two weeks and will move before the end of October when our lease is up.

Re: How long between closing and....

We closed December 13, 2006 and moved in on January 5, 2007. That included me taking off one week to pack and then DH taking off the following week to take care of stuff. We painted on the weekends and gradually moved boxes over, then all the furniture went on the last day.
