How long before BF stopped being painful?

I'm looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. I don't want to stop b/c I can tell DD enjoys it and I know all the reasons it's good for her, I'd just like to know when I can expect it not to be painful anymore.

I took me a loooong time (err about 8 months) for it to stop hurting, but I had some unique issues (including vasospasms). I'm sure it will be much, much quicker for you.

I have to say though, even with the pain, it was well worth it. Once bfing is well established its sooo easy and pleasant.

I nursed the first two weeks and have been exclusively pumping since then. I think it was bad for about 4 wks total-- the two weeks of nursing (but that was due to improper latch!) and maybe the first two weeks of pumping.

I can tell you that 4 months into it I can turn the pump up to the highest suction level and feel no pain at all. It really does get better-- I didn't believe it at first. Hang in there!!!! Chat Icon

About 2 weeks. Did you see a lactation consultant? It shouldn't keep hurting for too long. Also, use Lansinoh, it really helps.

I nursed my son for one year, and my daughter for the first 3 weeks, and I would say both times, only the first week was rough. I wouldn't say it hurt, it was just a trying time to get them to latch correctly. If your baby is latched correctly, there should be no pain at all.
