How large do your follicles have to be to trigger?

This my first month using Clomid - 50 mg - and my first sono is Thursday (CD12) - what size should my follicles be by then and how large do they have to be to trigger?

TIA

I want to say that when I triggered both times the sono earlier in the day said the eggs were around 20mm in the lead and then 18 and 19

Anything over 16mm is considered mature, but my RE would wait until my biggest follie was at least 21mm before I triggered. Best of luck!

They will probably do blood to see where your estrogen level is and if they think that you will ovulate on your own, before they decide you are ready.

They trigger differently with clomid, inject IUI's and IVF.

I think with Clomid they usually wait till they are in the 20mm range or bigger. But all RE's are different and you could drive yourself crazy comparing them all.

I would just sit tight and wait for the word from your RE's office.

I triggered the same for my IUIs whether I was on Clomid or Follistim.

The day depends upon the person, how fast your follies grow and how quickly your estrogen levels rise. I ranged from CD14 to CD20. I had 6 IUIs.

Re: How large do your follicles have to be to trigger?

I had 1 that was 14.5 and 1 that was 30. They wanted to wait one more day to see if the 14.5 would grow and it didn't, but the 30 went up 32. I triggered that day. Since I tend to have a sort cycle I triggered on CD11 and had the IUI on CD12

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your responses... I had my CD12 sono today and so far no follicles have grown - nothing larger than 8mm - the tech said I might be a slow started but I am pretty disappointed. I go back on Sunday. Is there any hope for this cycle?

You're definately not out yet. Its very possible you're a slow grower this month. Happened to me one month and I end up with 2 good size follies by trigger time. Also keep in mind that if this sono tech was different from the previous tech- that could be the reason too....different techs tend to measure differently.
