How hard does your ~7 month old struggle to poop?

DD is almost 7 months, EBF, and been on solids for a month or so. Poor thing struggles SO hard to poop, and sometimes it's just a tiny dot.

Is this normal? She's eating fruits, veggies, and cereal (she's eat 10 bowls of oatmeal a day if I let her, she loves it, but we try to limit it for poop reasons).

I feel so bad for her...she really looks like she's having a tough time, but she's fine after she's done grunting.

My Doc said it's constipation if they poop hard little pebbles .
If that is the case you should try some prunes.
The one time my DD ate prunes it was like a soft mushy poop explosion a few hours later! Chat Icon
Did the trick!
But she is pretty regular so I avoid prunes .
But it totally works for constipation!

Also- AVOID rice cereal like the plague. That binds them up so bad.

Jut noticed it a little lately so Ive been mixing prunes in with her cereal every few days and it does the trick. I remember having to do that with DS around this age too.

It’s definitely not pebble-looking when it comes out, so that’s good. But she often will push/grunt 5 or 6 times, then I’ll look, and there’s nothing in the diaper. This happens a lot. She does eventually poop and it’s thicker than before she started solids obviously. She gets prunes in her regular rotation of foods, so every other day or every 3rd day maybe.

I just feel so bad for her, though she doesn’t seem to mind. It just seems so frequent that she’s trying and nothing is coming out.

She probably has gas too.
My DD will sometimes grunt and push and get all red faced- and then just gas comes out!

Re: How hard does your ~7 month old struggle to poop?

It's SO funny how often a post relates to something I'm experiencing at the moment. Last night DD was up a) for bad teething and b) b/c she had to poop and couldn't. I pushed back her legs and TMI...this thing was HUGE. She got some out but stopped pushing b/c it hurt so bad. Chat Icon She looked like she was in awful pain. An hour later I got her to go back to sleep.

This morning we mixed a lot of prunes with a little oatmeal and gave her some water from her sippy. I'm really hoping it gets it out (the poor nanny!).
